I have a 2012 SG, with SE Stage1 A/C and Rhinehart 4" slip ons. Do I need to install a tuner right away or will the bike run down the road with no problems? I'm looking at the SE race tuner and the dynojet powervision. I haven't made a decision yet though. How big of a hassle is it to download and add the tuner to the bike?
Given you did both intake and exhaust, a tune is a very wise idea, soon.
The Power Vision is a little spendier than the SEPST, but, much more flexible so is worth the extra $$$. The PV through firmware revisions has become a no brainer to operate. If you can make your way onto an internet based forum, your good to go.......
I have had both, and transfered the PV to my new bike when purchased this summer, for $199. You can't do that with the SEPST. I now have a $450 paper weight in the SEPST being that was used 2 bikes ago.
Thanks VTL nut, very informative. I'm gonna look into the powervision more. I just don't want to buy the powervision and be stuck with it without the dealer mechanics available for help. I like the setup and looks on the PV too. So you don't think I'll have any problems running it like it is just to see any difference if any? I'm also thinking about changing out the stock headers down the road too
Putting on the slip-ons is fine without a tune. Once you changed the stock AC to a high volume free flowing AC you have changed the AFR and the bike setup is too lean. Get the tuner, can get it from Fuel Moto here, and when you purchase tell them the changed components you have and they will preload a map for you.
When you change out the header, you will only need to download a new map adding the header to the configuration.
the hd street tuner works great! It has smart tune and you can adjust the afr manually if you want to. 6400 rpm redline is great and it's cheap at ~$250, too!
Mine runs fantastic on the hd map for the a/c and slip- ons. No pinging, popping, surging, good mpg and power increase. What's wrong with that? Oh, it keeps the full factory warranty and some don't.
I've read from on here the SEST is not a performance tune. I know with the SE stage 1 A/C and 4" rhineharts I have on it now are making it run too lean. I'm wanting to save the warranty if at all and if the SERT or SEST are the only way to do that than I'm leaning that way. And are the SE tuners user friendly like the PV or do you have to take the bike to the dealer everytime you add a mod? If that's the case the labor is going to add up if I decide to do headers and maybe cams. I'm just confused on saving the warranty/user friendly and of course the cabbage I'm trying to save installing and labor for a tuner
Once you open up the air cleaner it is highly suggested that you install some kind of tuner for the air to fuel ratio's. I just purchased a new 2012 FLHTK and after alot of research here on the foruma and the net I went with the Dynojet PowerVision from Feulmoto. HD tuners are fine but you will have to have an HD tech tune them for you and that will cost you their hourly rate plus. Call Jamie at Feulmoto, great to work with. I am also running Rinehard 4" mufflers and just order the Vance & Hines Dresser Dual headpipe, Powervision and air cleaner from FeulMoto..can't wait to get it installed!!
