Default Tuners

So, I just bought my 2012 Nightster yesterday. It came with Cobra PowerPro HP black pipes and a SE intake. I have noticed a few hiccups in the running. I think the tune that is on it is not setup properly. I have the original SE Super Tuner that came with it (it was in a saddle bag on the bike).

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this tuned properly without breaking the bank?
How many of you have the SE tuner? Is it worth a damn? I only have the tuner and no cables to connect it up.

I have thought about selling the tuner and getting a VP3 but since the cobra's aren't listed in the maps (since they are a competitor to V&H) it makes me wonder if it would work well or not.

I believe you can get support and supplies for your SE tuner from the dealership. Here is a link about the tuner:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/ignit...-se-tuner.html

Many on the forum by far, including me, run PowerVision with Autotune. It is an excellent tuner for about $400. It also has great technical support from suppliers like Fuelmoto....they are on the forum too. Some run Fuemoto's Micro EFI for about half the cost of the PV.

You will get a lot of opinions about tuners.

Welcome to the forum.

Fuelmoto doesn't look too bad! I might try to get things going with the SE tuner first and see what happens. I will probably stop by the dealer to get pricing on my way home one day...

You can buy the cables for the SE tuner. I think they around $40. You can download the software from HD for free. You can also buy this software https://tunemyharley.com/ to run with the SE tuner. I don't think it would be a bad deal for less than $100.

I agree, if you already have the SE tuner, you can probably make it work for less....never used that tuner so can say much about it good or bad.

The tuner locks to the VIN of the motorcycle and will not be able to tune a different bike. (there may be someone online that offers a reset to enable it on another VIN)

Here is the HD cable kit- Part Number 32184-08A
https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...uner-cable-kit

Here is a link to the HD Pro Super Tuner online training and software download-

http://prosupertuner.harley-davidson...uperTuner.aspx

You will need your VCI serial number to download the software or use all 1's.

The SE Pro tuner will allow you to tune the VE tables by recording data while you ride. There was also a SE Street tuner that has less capability.

It doesn't have access to as many tune data items as the Power Vision.

the SEPST is a very capable tuner. I would recommend you find someone that can dyno tune with it and go that route. That should cost less or very close to buying a new tuner. Where are you located? Maybe someone can recommend a reputable tuner in your area.

your SE tuner is worthless as far as selling it. It is married to your VIN and can't be used on another bike.

The Power Vision, by default has the ability to tune one bike. Once it is married to a specific bike, it cannot be used to tune another bike. However, a license can be purchased allowing the Power Vision to tune another bike. There are three license options available, Unlock, Dual, and shop Tune license. Contact us for more information.

I've been using the license program for years and I'm a DJ dealer. Been tuning HD's for about 19 years now. Pretty familiar with how out works. Thanks
