Default Rear Lighting Project

I hate the look lighting on the new FLTRX and FLHX rear ends (the ones without a square tail light and only bullet signals in RTB). Whenever I see the two RTB lights coupled with the tri-bar, I can't help but see a face!

See what I mean? Weird looking face staring right at you!

So, I'm planning on installing dual color CD Plasma rods in RTB configuration as well as a run-break tri-bar, but getting rid of the bullet signals. Has anyone done this before? I've been looking around but haven't found anything. For anyone who has, or knows about the assembly back there, I have a few questions.

Can I run the plasma rods into the connectors where the bullet signals used to be or should I just wire it up through the tri-bar like the block diagram on CD's site? I'd like to keep the install clean, and routing the rods directly into the now empty plug seems easier than running wires down to the tri-bar.

Next, since I'm taking off the bullet signal bar, will the license plate mount be coming off as well? As far as I can tell, the backing plate is mounted to the signal bar and not to the fender itself. Is this correct? If so, I'll need to mount the license plate to something. Are there holes to do that on the fender already or do I need some sort of mounting plate? I was looking at the curved illuminated CD frame, but am not sure if it'll mount flush on the fender without any sort of backing plate. Anyone know?

Alright, I think that's it. I guess I could just pull it all apart and figure it out, but since I don't have a garage to work in, I don't want to leave my bike half taken apart.

B&P, take a look at the microfiche on Ronnies HD website, where you will see exploded diagrams that may answer some of your questions. Alternatively If you plan doing mods and servicing your bike, get a factory service manual and your own parts book.
