I do see it is set to 0 so I will change to 1 and set temp to 284... The eitms off temp is set to 135 and the eitms on temp is set to 310 so I will change this one to read 284, Now is this gunna get the eitms working at lower temp and or get the range correct on PV? I wll still have to find out why engine is running up to 300 by PV gauge...It was only 65f and was in town but not hitting all the stop lights, should have not been running that hot, even had synthetic oil put in on first service bike only has 1500 miles..
Thanks bro....:}
Sounds like you've identified the issue. Good for you.

Just FYI - The factory settings on my bike are for the EITMS to activate at 287 degrees and deactivate at 275 degrees. So that is the range from the factory. I don't believe the "deactivate" temp is that important because from my experience once the system activates it's never going to deactivate until you get some airflow to cool the motor.

As for your 300 degree head temp during your ride, I don't find that unusual at all. Even at 65 degrees. I did some testing at 65-70 degrees and found that from a cold start, at idle, the engine would reach EITMS activate temps in 12' 45". If you are out riding at typical engine temps of say 240 degrees, it would only take 4 to 5 minutes of standing still to activate the EITMS, even at ambient temps of 65 degrees.

If it's windy outside, those times would increase as any airflow will keep the engine cooler longer.

Right on Bro, I also forgot to mention that I had the lowers closed from when I went on a toy run and the temp that day was 40f so I closed them and forgot to open them back up...My Bad.....:}
Thanks for the tip on the setting though, should the off EITMS setting be raised from 135?

135 sounds extremely low to me, but like I said, I don't think the "off' setting is really that important. If it was me, I'd raise it up to about 10 or 20 degrees below the activate temp just for general purpose.

When the bike goes into EITMS mode, in most cases, it will not cool itself off enough to disengage anyway. Therefore the "off" temp is pretty much irrelevant.

My experience has shown that the EITMS will slow the rate of temperature ascent, but it doesn't do much for actually cooling it down. You've got to get moving or otherwise get some airflow to cool it off.

Maybe on touring 2 wheelers the on temp is set to 287. On my trike the on temp is set to 284 and the off temp is 275. I would also agree that the EITMS does not cool the engine but rather attempts to slow the rate of temp increase. Also realize that it will only activate if you are at a stop and at idle. When your front cyl temp reaches your number it will activate. That's a good thing. As soon as you give it throttle and get moving it will go back to normal. The engine needs moving air to cool it. Since I've installed the FCS Fans I never go into heat mode. On the highway with the fans on in summer I might see 280-285. When I get off and hit traffic the motor cools to 260-265. Remember now that I am on a trike with no where for the heat to escape.
What were your temps set at in the PV - you never did say?

I would leave the EITMS On setting as is or maybe a tad higher (e.g. 290-300°) and set the EITMS Off parameter to 10-15° lower. If you set the Off temp at 135° it will kick on at 284° and won't cut off during normal operation, which isn't what you want to happen.

The engine is new, which is in part why it is getting so hot, so I would give it more time to break in thoroughly. If you are concerned about these temps, I would suggest installing a Ward FCS. I installed one in May and in a full summer of running in S. LA my ET (FCHT) hit 250° only twice and never went higher when the fans were running. It stays between 225-240° about 95% of the time, even in normal city traffic.
