Default Saddlebag Security

I've read a couple of posts about saddlebags being stolen or lost while riding. Evidently there are some companies out there selling products that make the saddlebag mounting more secure. I converted mine to bolt and nut mounting and am quite pleased with the result. It only cost me $14.06 and all the parts came from Home Depot. I bought 4 captive nuts and 4 wing bolts and they work just fine. The captive nuts fit the brackets on the bike exactly like the original wire lock and pins. I originally thought they might work loose as I ride since there is no way to "lock" them. However, I've not had that happen in over 1000 miles of riding. I do check them often for tightness, but they have never been loose at all. I attribute that to the rubber grommet in the saddlebag compressing and working somewhat like a lock washer. The attached pix should provide all the instruction you'll need to convert.

Posting pix in this forum is needlessly difficult. I'm trying to figure it out. Please be patient.

you can buy 2 captive nuts and stainless button head bolts if you'd prefer. a lot of guys are just changing the rears because thats the one that can popped off easily. thats the route i went with changing the rear one and stainless button head bolts. bought it all at lowes.

I use a similar set up.
Tinnerman nuts and stainless 1 inch allen bolts.
Work great!!
Gotta use an allen wrench to get them off, but that's part of the security aspect of it.
