I was wondering what the average engine temperature is on a 96, 103, 107. Can anyone help me out? And is the temp read out on the PCV accurate when set to read via the ECM?
The PC reads the OEM ET sensor located in the front head, it is accurate. Its hard to say average engine temp is XXXF, the temp changes constantly depending on conditions. ET during steady state operations at 50 MPH wont be the same as stready state operations at 80MPH, or sitting while sitting still. Then there are environmental, tune, and load variables that impact temp. Is there a specific temperature and condition you are experiencing tthat believe to be suspect?
I just installed the FM 107 and 777 cams, level B heads, and hooked it up to the laptop after heat cycling it 3 times. I watched the temp at idle and the outside temp was 50 degrees, the engine temp got to 300 and I shut it off. After doing more searching it seems that is normal at idle. Now thinking about Ward Part Werks fan system.
Absolutely normal. From a cold start up, mine takes about 10-12 minutes at idle to break 300F. At highway speeds the rear cylinder breaks 300F at steady state operations while the front is down around 265F. 290F is about where the EITMS kicks in. Ambient temp doesn't have as much to do with ET as many believe.

I highly recommend the fans. You can sit in the garage all day with them running and temps will stay around 240. At least mine did.
I'll second the value of adding the Ward FCS fans. I installed them last May and my ET never exceeded 250°, so I'm a long way from hitting EITMS mode (set to 290°). While riding my ET stays at 225-235° while moving in >90° weather, down to as low as 200° at highway speeds in 50° weather.
