Default Thinking about Big Bore Kit

I found a few more shekels laying about so I am considering the '06 Big Bore Kit for my new FLTRI but the Harley web site says:
"Fits '06 EFI FLHRS, FLHRCI and FLTR models. Kit includes replacement catalyst muffler. ECM recalibration is required."
What does that mean? Will I still be able to use the touring mufflers or will I have to use these catalyst ones? I do not live the People's Republik of Kalifornia.

I take it to mean on 06 bikes, no? What year was yours?

It's not looking good Tripper. I'd say you'd have to throw that C-muffler deal as far as you can. I'm sure you can fit some pipe to replace the unit. By the way I'm not telling you to do this.

Just checked with my dealer on Sunday and was told that they can install the Screamin Eagle pipes with no problem. They stated as long as you use the HD pipes your warranty is OK. Anything else on the 06's and you are on your own.

I think that these dealers are going to get on the band wagon and tell people that they are the only ones that can change things now with the new regs, but I guess we shall see.

Tripper,

Don't give money to the HD shop yet. How much is this upgrade going to cost? You're close to Phoenix, so wait. HDWRENCH is going to do my ride next Saturday, I'll bet you his is cheaper, and it's going to be better than the HD stuff...I hope. Let's wait and see, you can wait 9 more days, I have to.

I'd say pull that crap off the bike, and put on a set of Rineharts and call it good.

Mac, I was thinking about having it done by the dealer for warrantee reasons. I'd thought about HDWRENCH too. I don't have an exact quote from the dealer yet and I'm a thinking that it should be around $2000 for parts ($1050) and labor ($1000). The bike does not even ship 'til the middle of next week so I have plenty of time to cogitate on it.

TC, the dealers are claiming ignorance of "the new regs" and are promising anything that the customer wants to hear, at least that's the way it was with the stealers I have contacted.

Skip, in another thread you said something about a person designing a 2-1 with a dummy pipe on the left for that "bagger look," how close could one get to that by modifying the stock set up? Or should I just cave in to peer pressure and go with duals? With 95 cubes I should have plenty of torque for 2up touring with either setup...or?

Tripper,

You're going to have some warrantee no matter what. Are you getting an extended warantee? 2 years isn't that much in my mind, these motors are tried and true, and the new parts will have a warrantee.

Two into on with a dummy on the left? Not for me, I don't think it would look right no matter how hard they tried. Further, you're carrying around a lot of extra weight with zero functionality. (Sort of like the chrome crap I add to the bike [8| But that's differentF!)

Anyway, let me talk to Steve (HDWRENCH) some more and find out what the deal is with warrantee.

The other thing is this: There ain't nothing we can't fix without a manual!

That's a plus for the consumer, wonder if it is going to last

One other thing to be considered which you probably know is that if the dealer does the work, the warrantee should be covering the entire bike (according to some dealers) whereas if an indy does it, they warrantee their work in most cases but the factory warrantee is pretty much shot.
