Default Short Dude Windshield?

OK, so I'm gettin a few miles on her thanks to a run of nice weather. The seat is breaking in nice and I can put both feet level on the ground. The windshield is now way to tall for me. At first it was right at eye level but now it's above. I'm 5'8" with a 30' inseam. So I'm thinking dark smoke, looking just over the top. What do ya like? HD or after market? regular shape or molded?

Try the demos out at the dealership. Personally, I am still using the SG stock... Something like that might work great for you if you need a shorter windshield. And it's tinted. I would imagine there are plenty of people selling their stocks for cheap. Might be worth a shot.

Personally I really like HDs 10" Wind Splitter, I look well over the top and it seems to have the right angle of the dangle that creates a "comfort zone" for the passenger and myself.

Had a buddy ride off in a ditch because he couldn't see through the dark smoke windshield he normally looks over. It was a pre-dawn ride and a little chilly, so he was ducked down a bit.
A light grey 6" Klockwerks would look cool, cut the wind, and allow you to see through when necessary.

I am exactly your size so this might help. When I took delivery I swapped the stock windshield with an 8' dark tint. I immediately went back after a short ride and exchanged it for a light tint. I was looking just over the top edge but with dark tint I considered it very dangerous. The light tint worked great and keep in mind this is with the stock low seat. I ended up getting a C&C Solo seat which sat me about an inch lower. Now instead of looking over the top edge I'm looking through the 8' shield. I ordered a 6' LRS Ultra flip light tint and I'm back to looking over the top edge of the shield. I am very satisfied with my setup, just remember the height of your seat will determine the height of shield you need. Hope this helps.

Check out Long Ride Shields. They're a site sponsor, have great customer service and sell a number of very good products.

As far as shield height, sit on your bike and put a piece of tape where you want the top of the shield to be (they say even with your nose). Then measure from the fairing to the mark. That's the height shield you need. If you land in the 1/2 zone, go to the lower number. Also, remember to sit the way you ride when measuring (straight up, slouching, whatever) to get it right. I would also, as others have said, go with a light to medium tint. You don't look through it very often at night, but when you have to ...

Good luck and ride safe!

For day to day regular riding I have no problem looking through a windshield. Been driving that way in cars all my life. I hate, hate to have the top of the shield impose. The only time you need to see over the shield is in rain or fog...
Sit tall, no problem. The comfort of sitting behind and looking through a quality shield far exceeds the cool factor of a low shield you must duck behind to relieve buffeting. Just my opinion, only been riding 40+ years. FWIW.
