Default Powdercoat

I've always been a fan of chrome but I just sold my 08 flhx and looking at a 2013. I'm wanting to black out the front end and was wondering if I should buy the harley painted gloss black or go with powder coated parts. I have never had anything powdercoated but was wondering how it holds up and who does a good job at this.

Thanks

I am almost 100% sure the black Harley parts are powder coated. I see no advantage of buying HD black parts when you can find a local powder coater and save yourself a few bucks. I have had tons of parts done locally on my wife's bike and have been very pleased with the results.

Look around a little.
I got my black fork lowers off ebay for $180 shipped. They are probably some take off parts that were powder coated but they look real good. Harley wants $420 for the same part. I saw in the classified section of this forum that a person was selling a powder coated front end including the slider covers for $160 (after I bought mine unfortunately). That's a hell of a deal if they're still available. Check into the cost of getting your own parts powder coated as well.

it is our exchange program we offer, if you are local you can bring the bike in and we can do the swap for you!

The powder will hold up great if prepped properly. I believe Harley factory parts are powder coated also. But you can save a lot of money by having your parts coated.

Sig pic = lots of powdercoating, lots of it, and much you wouldn't see unless you're right up to the bike and know what you're looking at.
Cool thing about powdercoating is you can get creative. Anybody can just go buy the HD stuff, BUT, I still have quite a bit on mine that you simply cannot buy black. Blacking out is easy. Blacking out so it doesn't look like every other black bike is a bit more of a challenge.
Best of luck with it.

Nothing at all wrong with good power coating, bad coating be it power coat or paint will suck. Find a local guy with skill and you'll come out ahead.

Your care and planning shows--from your sig pic it looks just perfect. Taking out all the chrome is just ordinary looking but you've done a very nice job keeping the balance.

I have powder coated to match the black denim on my bike. I think the only harley part I have is the black wrinkle horn cover. My son bought it for me. My parts have been PC since 1500 miles, and hold up fine. The only issue I have has is the bolts on the front wheel. They get touched up because when I replace the tires, the nuts get scratched. I could get the nut axel covers PC. I also recommend you shop around for a PC. I have found the pricing varies a lot. The best prices I got were from a metal refinishing company. The worst prices were from a custom bike builder...
