Default Exhaust Question

I know there has been plenty of forums about people that want to quiet there exhaust down but I haven’t seen an answer to what I’m looking for yet: Before I ask I know that sound is a matter of preference but I would like options and input. I currently have a Rinehart full exhaust and like the sound but to me it is still just to quiet and then if I take the baffles out at idle it sounds great but when you get on it it has a very high pitch pingy noise that sounds like a$$ imo. Can anyone tell me an exhaust that will give me that true loud Harley rumble and also sound like a Harley at highway speeds and when cracking on it. Also some specs on the bike I have a thundermax installed a k&n air cleaner and 575 zippers cams

any help or ideas are appreciated and like I said I know there are many types I just want to know what you all out there have experienced to help me decide to stay with the Rinehart’s or go elsewhere

Until you hear one in person at a bike night or rally or what have you, you won't know. There will be a million guys posting about their exhaust in these threads all pointing you a different direction. Bottom line, go listen and find what YOU like.

I couldn't have said it better! After listening to a hundred bike exhausts during Thunder Beach, I decided to get Rinehart 4" slip ons (for Christmas).

Youtube is a good starting point, but go listen in person!

Good luck.

I agree youtube is a hard place to judge sounds get distorted and hard to hear i have a buddy that rides with me that has sampsons they sound really good but i dont know alot about them most of the guys around here all have rineharts some sound better then others guess it just depends on the bike. most of the baggers around my parts run either rineharts or v&h and i wasent much on the v&h personally

Let a friend ride your bike so you can really hear what your pipes sound like, on a bagger the sound all goes out behind you so you can't really tell what they sound like. Better yet trade with the guy with the sampsons & see if they sound any better than yours when riding, you'll only need a few blocks to tell. I know people who loved the sound of a certain pipe when they heard it on somebody elses bike & didn't think it was loud enough when they got them on their bike. Granted things like cams & engine build will make a difference also, but pipes sound totally different riding or just listening to them roar past you.

About exhaust. First, the full sound it makes while cruising down the road cannot be heard by the rider. The rider doesn't know just how loud it is. Even straight pipes don't seem all that loud when you're the rider. But, the sound behind that bike is way way loud. Second, the "sound" will seem different to the rider than it does to an observer. The only way to hear the full expanse of the sound is to be stationary while the bike goes by, not by being on the bike. Third, the "true Harley rumble"? I don't think any single exhaust system can lay claim to that. Go to any gathering of Harleys and almost all of them will sound good, but also somewhat different. So which one is "true"? You'll never get agreement. It's all in what you like.
