Hey all, with all the great information being presented from other threads on exhaust I wanted to hit up everyone on this one. I recently dumped my 09'SB when a cager pulled right out in front of me in an intersection. I was about 25ft away when he pulled out and was going 40mph so Im sure you all can imagine what happened from there, dumped to the right. Anyway, I am getting all the new parts ordered probably next week. I was all set on some VH 2-2 of some sort but now from reading all the other posts on this forum Im thinking I need to tap some more brains out there. I have always run VH exhaust with no issues what so ever so I am slightly partial to their brand. So what do you guys think for a 2-2 setup with some really deep thumping but tight sound?? Ive heard the VH short shots as well as the straight shots. I like them alright, but is there something out there better for the sound Im looking for? Thanks a bunch!
I've always thought that Rush and Reinhart muffs have a more intense, lower "thump" to them than other brands (even though they may not be as "loud" overall). I suspect that a well-designed and wrapped baffle that has appropriate backpressure gives the best sound in terms of that sort of intense, lower pulsing sound.
If you are partial to V&H and want deep sound from a 2-2 setup, I think your best bet will be the big shot staggered, double barrel, or the long shots. I have tried various baffles and baffle arraignments, and I still have not gotten the deep sound I want from my side shots. I have been told the quiet baffles will give a deeper tone, but I have not tried them yet.
Agreed. Definitely don't go with the sideshots. Very loud but kinda barky, less of that deep deep rumble. I think its there, its just drowned out by the other noises. Plus there is a noticeable loss in torque. The 2-1's I think have the best low rumble. I have heard a couple of bikes with the big radius and so far i'm not impressed with that pipe either. My 2 cents worth.

V&H pipes are all great quality, and I've heard alot of them, but I find them loud if a little higher pitched. Don't get me wrong they don't sound bad or anything but I believe the general forum consensus is
Thunderheader
D&D fatcat
Rinehart or bub (same pipe same company)
I have the bub7 2/1 and if you want to talk deep rumble with a screaming howl the above all work very well.
Jarhead08 that is a very entertaning AVA.

Look at the BUB7 exhaust system if you want deep. I replaced a set of Samson BG3 with the BUB's on my 07 FXDB thinking they'd be quieter. WRONG, ran them 1-day before putting the BG's back on. The BUB are soooooo deep they hurt my ears and before long had an ear ache just riding home from work. They'll be going up on ebay as soon as I get off my duff and prepare them for shipment.
