Default Drop Your Bike? Maybe Not!

I was reading a thread about dropping bikes… And came up with this Incident Rating System, which I shall refer to as IRS. The IRS uses points which are added and deducted based on the specifics of the drop. This system only applies to low-speed (i.e., barely moving or not moving) drops – not crashes.

If you drop your bike, begin by giving yourself an IRS baseline score of fifty (50) points.

Now, adjust your score as follows based on the following mitigating factors:

No one looking or saw: subtract 15 points.
No one including you injured: subtract 15 points.
No damage to bike: subtract 15 points.
Not your fault: subtract 15 points.

However, there are several aggravating factors that require the addition of points to your baseline score:

Wife/significant other on the back: Add 15 points.
People (less than five) saw you drop it: Add 10 points.
People (six or more) saw you drop it: Add another 5 points.
At a rally or dealership parking lot: Sell bike immediately; take up fishing.
One or more people come running over to help you pick it up: Add 25 points.
Injury requiring medical attention to yourself or passenger: Add 25 points.
Damage to bike: Add 10 points.

As you can see, it is quite possible, depending upon your IRS Score, to drop your bike and to be able to tell yourself, “It never happened.” If your score is zero or less, you've never dropped your bike. On the other hand, drop it at the wrong time under the wrong circumstances and you could be looking for a new hobby.

Oh, and according to the IRS, I've never dropped mine!

Good luck!

I have a score of 15. Only because my wife was on back. So, according to this, it's her fault. If she wasn't on back it would have never happened. lol.

Well looks like I dropped my old bike but just barely. That stupid turn signal that broke screwed me. This thread is awesome!

How many points do I add for dropping it while I was working underneath it? (Only my wife saw it...) There's a slight grade as you can see in my Avatar, and I was working on the down side.

If she was close enough to see it, she was close enough to distract you. And if she distracted you, it's her fault! No points! Never happened.

Dropped mine riding on ice in February, alone, no damage, my fault, no one saw. Dropped my 04 cranking out of the garage, again alone, no damage, no one saw, my fault. Then there was the time the damn thing fell off the lift, again alone, again no damage, again no one saw, again my fault. According to this I have a 5 for each incident.
