The electronics are what concern me the most. They look like crap if they even still work at all. That would all need redone. Any idea how much one would spend on that? Thanks for all the replies. Really hoping I can get my hands on this thing.

In actuality, it might not be much different from ones up north that flooded in saltwater. But in this case the salt intrusion into the components was slower and has had longer to take effect. Saying that because is a HD it's worth more is silly. It could likely be a money pit for you. You probably are looking at a complete take apart and replace or restore as appropriate. Re-plating the chrome parts will cost a fortune, thank the EPA for that. In many cases, replacing the chrome will be cheaper. The same with electrical components.

Seriously? look at resale values of motorcycles, your comment is false, it is worth more because it is a HD....

This is simple math, value of current model minus what it takes to get the bike to current value... In the wrong hands, it will cost alot, but in the right hands, one could score on that deal...

HD's have the best resale value in the current market and a 2006 is still a good chunk of change if it is in working order...

I wouldn't put to much into it. $2,000 - $2500. It could end up being a money pit. $4,000 is 1/2 the price of a good running EVO touring bike. It would be a fun project. Good luck with the bike.

I think $2,000 would be a price to shoot for.
If you get it, there are some things that you don't even want to try to reuse. For example all the wiring should be changed. It will just be one problem after another if you try to save it.
there are lots of real good used parts for sale all the time. If you know what stuff is worth, it's easy to by replacement parts for 50 cents on the dollar, if you're patient.
Good luck.

Just realized it sounds like I'm trying get this bike from OP. Not so! 06 RG with darn near complete rebuild would be top tier tourer. Worth time and money. If priced right I would jump on this thing and so should you! Go for it!

I really appreciate all of the insightful comments for a newbie. Not many forums are a gracious. I was thinking about some of the things I would want to do if I get it. I have always liked the look of a blacked out bike. Do you think given the current condition would powder coating cover the pitting and oxidation or would they still need replacement?

Until you start the disassembly you won't know. Consider this, there might be serious mechanical conditions, blown motor etc. for the reason a relatively new bike was parked and left to rot. Course it could have been an idiot with more money than sense, but think of that possibility. Chances are, you would not know that until you got into it.

And just because it's a HD doesn't make it gold. Course the dealer thinks so when he sells you parts.

There's no way this bike will be OK to run without completely tearing down the engine. It seems to me the assumption at this point is that the engine is toast. Some parts will be alright of course, but you won't know till you take it apart.
