Kury has a mount that attaches where the windshield and the fairing come together and lets you pick various attachments depending on the device you want to mount. I 've been thinking of getting this one myself but haven't yet.

I wouldn't even think about using a suction cup mount for anything on a bike???? Everyone I have ever used for anything has fallen off at least once. Alot different picking a gps up off the car/truck floor than the side of the road. Best case is it would flop around on the harness and just scratch the paint? I got a cheap ebay mount that attaches to the handlebars with two screws and the Garmin ball mount pops into. Easy two minute install/remove and secure. I've used it on rentals too.

If you don't want a decent mount use a tether cord. I was using a handlebar mount and it came with one. An adhesive pad with a nylon cord which you secured someplace that if the GPS comes loose will not fall to the ground.

I've used mine suction cupped to my fuel door for the last 6 years. No problems.
It fell off once, but I made a lanyard attached to the GPS unit and the other end snapped under my fuel door with a knot. It just laid over when it let go. I also plug it into my cig socket and radio jack so the lanyard is really overkill.
Your 2012 has more of a dome on the lid. So it might not be as effective?

Thanks again all for the advice. The fuel door is out as the first peice of bling I received was a "Live to Ride, Ride to Live" fuel door. I have the winter to make a lanyard just in case it come loose. I have the GPS in my F250 and go down some serious dirt roads for camping trips and never had it fall off. And no, I am not going at a snail's pace down the dirt roads. Also going to do some looking for a handlebar mount that will accept the Garmin ball. One major reason I am reluctant to buy a brand specfic mount is contemplating changing to either a newer Garmin or an IPhone in the future. And yes I know there are a variety of mounts that will work with the right adapter.

My goal in asking the question about the suction cup mount was just to gain some experience advice from others.

Just put it on your gas cap. Those that say you have to look down, PFFTTT. You have to look down at your gauges don't you? You can look down to see where you need to go. Used mine (Garmin 1450LMT) for 4 years. Don't like the handle bar crap or the new CVO dash mount. Looks pretty lame in my mind. I just wish Harley would go with a electonic screen to include everything. With the electronics we have available to day it would be no problem. Electronics can take the vibrations. Think airplanes. It sure would clean up the batwing and sharknose fairings. Just use the suction cup on the gas cap. It will work just fine.

How do you get around the glare problem on the screen? Visibility is practically zero in the bright sun which Fla. has it's hare of.
Can't rely on voice commands because my pipes are too loud.......not complaining :-)
I also mounted mine on the windshield with suction cup which held up for the 100 mile trip I took. Then remove it an put it back on in my vehicle where I use it the most.

I had one of these and after a year or so the mount broke while doing 60 on the hwy. I had a lanyard connecting the GPS to the mirror, so I didn't loose the GPS.

Bought a RAM that mounted to the mirror stem and could not be more impressed or happy with it.
