Default chrome hand control covers- Thoughts please

I am looking to do my controls in chrome. The switches themselves will remain black but I am thinking just the housing that houses the signal switches, Mode, volume switches etc etc. Are they just covers that go on over the housing or are they a whole new housing. I looked through the new catalog and came up with this PN. Is it the right one?

I would also like to add some chrome grips, I have a Limited so they are heated and everything else on the bike (floorboards, brake pedal, shifter pegs) are Nostaligic themed.
Are these the right PN and are they something I can do myself, I am fairly mechanically inclined

The housings look like the right part. Don't think the grips are, though. Web site says the grips go to '07 touring. I did my housings though not as complicated as a Touring, it's more of a hassle than hard. Close quarters in there, not a lot of slack in the wires, etc. Never did it before, took a couple hours. Good luck!

For the price, they better be the actual housings. I'm thinking about the switch covers to add a little contrast without emptying the wallet.

The switch housings are just that - housings. They are not covers for the existing housing.

I put them on my Duece and left the buttons black. Looks nice with the contrast. I've seen the chrome covers on the switch buttons themselves, with the chrome housings, and my preference is to leave the buttons black.

Patience is absolutely necessary when you do the install. It's a tedious, but doable, job your first time around.

71813-09, seems to be right for the switch housing. Get the service manual and real small magnetic screw driver. I mean real small. Take your time and you'll be good. Makes a world of difference.

I considered the covers but reviews I read made them sound real cheesy looking and didn't provide the tight perfect fit that a replacement housing does.

To big and bulky, look closely at the space around the switches and also look at the space on the grip on the clutch side.

I have the Kuryakyn covers on my Superglide. They are OK. nothing more. After I spend money on a few other things I want, I am going to get the complete housings. They will do for a year or two, but if I was to do it again I would have just got the housings.
