Default Cam question

A friend of mine wants to know whether or not he should be worried about the Cam bearings on his 1991, 80 cubic inch engine which has 43,000 miles. He has asked two mechanics and received two different answers and now wants to hear the opinions of Harley riders.

You should move this thread over to the evo section, this is mostly a twin cam section for newer bikes.

From what I have heard about evo's that many miles should not be a problem, they are gear driven, but like everything else if he has not owned it since new there is no way to know how it has been treated. Generally the later evo's were better from what I heard, later 90's.

I would start to think about changing them. Had one go around 50k. Cheap insurance!
