Man that cant be a HD.... ***** G. or any of his family before him would EVER allow a bolt to be put on their fine bikes that would rust like that... Would They??? :-)
Its a common problem on touring bikes. Some guys will even carry a spare and have used it! You can pic up one at your local auto parts store. Its a Hymns joint.
The stock shift linkages come installed in a 94% broken condition, you only get to use the last 6% of life. Change it now, before you get stuck. Easy fix.
As far as the bolt goes, take a torch and cut the rusted part off, it will be fine.

LOL, I found the post with the heim joints mod, gonna hit the Ace tomorrow and see if I can get the parts to do the mod, then maybe some extras in the tool bag.
This is my first big twin. I have ridden BMW's for 30 years. last summer I got a hankering for a sportster so I bought an old Ironhead. It was fun, but it was a death trap.
That made me buy a 2005 XL1200, that made me buy this 2007 Road King... haven't thought about BMW's in awhile, been enjoying the cushy ride too much.

A Beemer driver? Good lord dude, you have a lot of catching up to do here. First off, go out and start the Harley up and in the process, throw yourself over the handlebars a few times. and geezo criminey, do something about that rusty bolt. Change the picture. (shrug)
