Lose the inner rings on the SE clutch kit. Know that's not what you have but if its similar follow those instructions not the book. You may have wedged the ramp and ball too far back. You should be able to work it with the adjuster all the way out and not pull the tranny cover. Disconnect the cable from the lever and work it back and forth. There is a throw bearing on that side that may be shot also.

Well I've got it apart and there is no ring behind the last friction plate. It was all resting against the flat part of the clutch hub. When I installed these I started with friction plate and then steel plate, alternating until I ended with friction plate. My book doesn't even identify that there is a smaller plate that's supposed to be behind the last friction plate...so now what?

Ok fellers, paying a little more attention to his sig, he has a 1996.

It's a little different stack up and there is no small spring plate.

The parts book shows the the first thing into the hub is a steel plate, then friction, alternating from there with a spring plate between 4th and 5th friction plates instead of a flat steel plate.

griffsyj, does the stack up of the new clutch match that pattern?

Yes it does except the book SAYS friction plate, steel, to start with friction ate and end with friction plate. I took the last friction plate and steel plate out and put it all together. Still nothing so I went in the trap door and the ***** were ramped up too far and caused it to get stuck. Put them back in correctly, and adjusted the clutch freeplay and it's working correctly. My only question now is should I go ahead and put the last steel plate and friction plate in like its "suppose" to be, or put the primary cover back on and see if it moves

there is a specific location for the snap ring gap at the ramp end. Double check that before you close that up. Sounds like you got it.

Yeah I see that it's supposed to be over top of where the "tang" is for the outer ramp...and it was where it was supposed to be when I opened it up...but you could tell that the inner ramp was force hard against the snap ring so I took it out and it popped into location. Now it's time to put the last friction plate and steel plate back in and see if I still got what I'm looking for

Sounds like you got it with the ramp and *****. I'd put it all the parts back in. Should work fine from there. Likely start slipping without all the friction plates needed.

Always a tough call when the words don't match the picture.....99% of the time, picture is right, but you never know. I've never taken an older clutch apart to check it out, hopefully somebody here has or somebody you know.

Congrats anyway for finding the ramp problem!!

Got it all back together and just test rode, everything is gravy. Thanks for everyone's help...you guys are definitely life savers. I'm going to ride to work tomorrow and further test ride but it's shifting correctly, downshifting correctly. Definitely a relief to get it done before my trip. Thanks again!
