Default Impact Gun for Fork Lowers

I am looking to buy an impact gun for my personal use on the Limited to use when I change out the lowers for the chrome ones and other items when needed around the house.
I don't mind spending the money but do not want to spend more than necessary. For those who own a impact gun what brand and size by foot pounds of torque is needed to use when changing the lowers?
I know bigger is better but I will seldom use the gun but will be nice to have when the need arises.
Looking at the cordless models but not sure if they are big enough for the task.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I use one similar to this one. Just pick up a 6mm extended allen head socket at your local hardware store and your good to go.

I have air and have run pressure up lot more then recommended on this old Harbor Freight 3/4 and it will do anything. Had it since I first did a timing belt on a 1985 Civic back in or around 1990. Little heavy but you can dial it back. Pops the compensator nut 3-5 taps. Not a lot to break but I am sure if you worked with your tools it would not hold up in that kind of use but I think it's rated from light taps to 1200 ft lbs. 3/4 drive so you need one adapter AN IMPACT sockets in the upper ranges. Ones like this are cheap and very simple inside. I have a 1/2" drive one too but I seldom grab it.

If you have air practically any impact wrench will do. If you don't have air look at electric (not battery). Get an idea of price in the local discount, then look in pawn shops. You have to know the value of an item, but tools are usually less expensive in pawn shops or on Craig's list than at a big box store.

I'd like to have one around too BUT I've never needed one to swap out fork lowers. I think you're probably talking about the hex screws at the bottom of the forks? I've always (3 or 4 times now?) been able to break them free with a sharp rap from a hammer on the hex tool.

If the main reason for buying on is for when you're going to swap out your lowers save your money. Just take the 6mm screw out before you remove the inner fork cap that has the spring under it.

Boyer8 is right about removing the 6mm screw. Ya don't need an impact to do that. You will need one to remove your compensator though. I have the DeWalt electric 1/2" impact driver. 360ftlbs will undo any nut or bolt on the bike; rust, crust or corrosion.

Thanks, I will save my money.... I was under the impression the gun would be needed even though the forks would still be mounted in the tree when I tried to loosen the bottom nuts off.
thanks again everyone.
