Don't have to be Tex. I removed my reach seat, Cruise control, extended highway pegs, Detachable luggage rack and mounting kit, custom floor boards and mirrors off my 08 FLHT before I traded it in on my 12 Ultra. Used the seat, mirrors, highway pegs and floorboards on my new bike and sold the cruise and luggage rack to a buddie with a 07 FLHT. I consider it an investment. Granted one I lost a little on .
like others, im not sure i wanted to know, but this got me thinking so i went into the office and pulled out my service records and i wish i never had. i have done alot of work, most dont do this to a new under warranty, change cams, exhaust, a.c., tuner and a tune when i bought it. then a few months later i went to a full race kit stage iv, and added the entire line of hd parts that cost nearly as much to put on as they cost... oh wheels and tires... lowers, stereo, fender... $8834 and there is other stuff not through hdhd, shocks, airshocks, very good shocks, trailer hitch, led's everywhere, and that is north of 2k in parts... yikes
wow, and i cant ride, rotator cuff, torn bicep, and my good arm is in a sling, hence no capitol letters...
I think I have spent about $2k total. Pipes, ac, tuner and some trim. It seems that I am not as tempted to spend money on bling with the Street Glide as compared with the RKC
With the detachable tour pak that I added goodies to + the bike I went thru I'm in the area of $10,000! Yikes! Bike was purchased new 2012 vivid black FLHX $19,995. I even purchased a enclosed Wells Cargo bike trailer that I diamond plated the floor for another $3500. I also have a black matching 2008 F-150 Crew Cab Harley Davidson Edition, also don't ask me the price! I need to stop! LOL This is a expensive hobby! LOL
I run a spreadsheet for added equipment on all of the bikes. Our Insurance policy needs it for the added coverages. (Hard copies are in our safe deposit box also)
The Street Glide, as of this morning, is $6932. That does include engine work. Plus an inner fairing and chrome fork sliders are on the way... and I gave her a list of stuff for Christmas.
This is all we do, our bikes. I do know the next new one will be a CVO. We don't trade in our bikes, we now keep them. In the past I would sell them, not anymore.
2012 SG is probably at $4k so far but I know that will go up to probably $8k by end of winter.
After drag racing for 30+ years, the money Ive dumped in nitrous motors, chassis, turbo motors, transmission, tires, paint, etc is nuts in compariosn to playing with my bikes. Drag racing was fun, but tweaking Harleys is MUCH less painful in the wallet for me and HDs hold their value much better, plus the little lady enjoys the bikes much more.
Well, so far I have spent over $1600 on Yaffe handlebars, Rinehart Xtreme true duals and other stuff; and that is while I am deployed. I need to go home to add up the rest of the stuff I have added. I'm keeping the receipts for sure.
