X2 on this. Had a batwing and now have the shark. Liked them both. Either way go with the Ultra in either model and add the detach kits for riding solo or short trips. MBH won't give up her back seat for anything. I've thought about the new cvo road glide but if it doesn't have that comfy crap in the back, momma ain't happy.

I have been riding for about three years.... started with Suzuki Maurder 800 and moved on to a Yamaha Roadstar. Have sold them both and now looking to getting a Harley Touring model. I have test road several but have not rented any. Most of my riding is couple hours of Kentucky back roads. Couple times per year a trip down to the dragon and once a year some 2000 mile week long adventure with the guys. Looking to get my wife to ride with me some as well.

I am down to about handful of choices.

1. Used 2010 Road Glide Custom denim black with 96 engine. Decent prices wich leaves some money for upgrades perhaps a 107 with cams and headwork... (top my brother-in laws new CVO Road kKng and buddy's CVO Street Glide).

2. Used 2012 Ultra Limited cherry red/merlot.

3. Used 2012 Road Glide Ultra in ember red.

4. New Road Glide Custom in hard candy orange.

5. New Street Glide in ember red.

I am struggling with the used bikes (don't know how they were broken in and typical cost for used around here is only 2-3 thousand less than new). Being winter might get the 2012 a bit cheaper. The Street Glide fit's me nice. I love the look of the Road Glides. The Road Glide Ultra hate the windshield as it distorts my vision and the Road Glide Custom wants to rip my helmet off.

Looking to keep OTD at around $23,000.

I have some time until I need to purchase. Looking for thoughts and negotiation tips.

Thanks for the help
1.) You will top them alright, by being the ugly duck.

2.) First Choice.

3.) A Fugly is still a Fugly.

4.) " " " " " ".

5.) Not unless you want to spent your first communion money like I did. I'm old, cranky and don't give a duck !

Defiantly the Ultra Limited. Sweet ride there and it don't need a lot bling.

I think if I were spending $23K on a tourer I would just buy a new EG Classic. Should be able to buy a new one for that price. One of my first "accessories" would be the kit to make the tour trunk easily removable. May even get that in the price.

If ya want your wife it start riding with you, ya need to make her part of the process. Let her pick, or at least have a say in, the style and color so she has some stake in it. All the tourers are the same underneath anyway. I love the shark nose and the tourpac is great, two up. Shields, Seats, bars and shocks are easy fixes that ya want on any of them anyway.

The Ultra Limited would be my choice, especially for 2-up riding. You have the tour pak, music for both rider and passenger, good suspension and a reasonably comfortable seat (especially for the passenger).

Rent one and put some miles on it so you really get a feel for it.

All of these are also found on the FLTRU as well. I agree with whoever made the comment before, make your own choice man. When you ask questions like that on here, most are going to tell you to buy what they ride. Just remember if you go with the FLTRX or the FLTRU, the headlight doesn't move and you can't reach the radio.

Any of those bikes you should be able to get for less than 23,000. I would say that if you are going to be riding with your wife, get one of the Ultras. The Road Glide or Electra Glide is a matter of personal choice on the looks.

OK, here's whatcha do, go to your nearest Harley dealer, pick the motorcycle you like the most, ask the salesman if he can have someone take it outside...
AND RUN YOU OVER WITH IT!
Buy what YOU like! NOT what someone else, especially someone you don't know, likes.
If you can't figure it out, it wasn't meant to be!
Save your money, buy a car. If, that is, you can figure out which one of those you like best.
Good luck.

Im going to take what he said and rephrase it without all the unnecessary garbage and add in some helpful advice (beleive it or not that is the purpose of this forum...)

While we can give you our opinions, they are going to vary (wildly). You should really look into some test rides of all these bikes if you havent ridden them all already. Also, prioritize what you want, is having extra $$ to play with upgrades more important than a new bike with warranty? If youre going to play with the new bike and void your warranty anyway then buy used. As for your comments on the RGU/RG windshields, I know what you mean and a klock werks windshield fixes it (for me at 5'10").

My vote is for #1. black, shark nose, $$ for 107 kit... whats not to like?
