I have been riding for about three years.... started with Suzuki Maurder 800 and moved on to a Yamaha Roadstar. Have sold them both and now looking to getting a Harley Touring model. I have test road several but have not rented any. Most of my riding is couple hours of Kentucky back roads. Couple times per year a trip down to the dragon and once a year some 2000 mile week long adventure with the guys. Looking to get my wife to ride with me some as well.

I am down to about handful of choices.

1. Used 2010 Road Glide Custom denim black with 96 engine. Decent prices wich leaves some money for upgrades perhaps a 107 with cams and headwork... (top my brother-in laws new CVO Road kKng and buddy's CVO Street Glide).

2. Used 2012 Ultra Limited cherry red/merlot.

3. Used 2012 Road Glide Ultra in ember red.

4. New Road Glide Custom in hard candy orange.

5. New Street Glide in ember red.

I am struggling with the used bikes (don't know how they were broken in and typical cost for used around here is only 2-3 thousand less than new). Being winter might get the 2012 a bit cheaper. The Street Glide fit's me nice. I love the look of the Road Glides. The Road Glide Ultra hate the windshield as it distorts my vision and the Road Glide Custom wants to rip my helmet off.

Looking to keep OTD at around $23,000.

I have some time until I need to purchase. Looking for thoughts and negotiation tips.

Thanks for the help

OK, here's whatcha do, go to your nearest Harley dealer, pick the motorcycle you like the most, ask the salesman if he can have someone take it outside...
AND RUN YOU OVER WITH IT!
Buy what YOU like! NOT what someone else, especially someone you don't know, likes.
If you can't figure it out, it wasn't meant to be!
Save your money, buy a car. If, that is, you can figure out which one of those you like best.
Good luck.

Geeezzz! Who pee'd in your Corn Flakes! Where's the Holiday spirit?
Unless I read the original post wrong, I see a new member, looking to purchase maybe his first HD, asking HD riders for their "thoughts" on his possible model choices, on an open "HD" Fourm! Exactly what "open" forums are for! Nowhere did I see him asking us to make his "choice". I'm glad he new where to come to get some decent advice from some members.

Ho Ho Ho!

1. 96" not enough on these sleds

2. If the price is right, maybe?

3. Too ugly, wouldn't own one

4. See # 3

5. Too many around, again wouldn't own one.

Around here the 10's and up bring pretty close to what a new one does, so I opted for a 12 Classic and was out the door for under 23, and the Ember Red has grown on me.

You missed the best of the lot; the Road King. The dealers in my area don't have a rental program; insurance go too expensive. However, you should ride the bikes you are interested in and add the Road King to the list. You can buy aftermarket bags and luggage, install a demountable windshield or bat wing if that's your thing and it's a touring bike. Strip that stuff off and it's a cruiser. I think the OEM bars need to be changed but that's just me.

You can pick up a late model low mileage Road King, probably already in Stage I configuration, with lugguage and maybe windshield for $16K-$17K. IMHO, you don't get mucn for another $5K-$6K for new one; not many significant changes since '10 or whatever the year the standard engine changed to 103".

If you aren't a short guy like me go with the Ultra limited or Road Glide Ultra for ultimate comfort. If you are a shorty go with the street glide. Either way you can't go wrong!!

Let me begin by saying that the following is MY OPINION. Do with it what you will.Try 'em all and buy the one you like best, etc... If I had to choose one based just on your brief description, I'd go with the new orange Roadie. Awesome color (in my opinion) Add things as needed. I am a shark nose guy. I think they handle great and look awesome. At 5'10", I can easily reach the radio (fact, not opinion). The lights don't turn with the steering on my truck either (also fact, not opinion).
