..the stock shocks on an FL provide just enough travel that the bike doesn't bottom out regularly....take 2 inches out of the travel..load the storage boxes up..and add a average 150 pound passenger...and I guarantee you WILL be bottoming out over "large bumps" as the OP calls them....
Thanks folks. Yea, I have stock air shocks on a 2001 FLHTC. I agree that the 2" lowering blocks are the problem. I added air, but no change. I lowered the rear because I'm vertically challenged. What type of shocks would lower the rear two inches but not bottom out?
Thanks for the help. I attached a pic of my recent front end upgrade. Brembos and chrome!
It doesn't happen often, just big bumbs like rail road tracks. It might be the kick stand, but like recommended above, I will inspect the underside of rear fender to see if I'm getting a tire rub but it sounds more like a clunk not a tire rub. I looked at the Bitching Bagger shocks, but you have to send your shocks in for them to rework them, and here in south Florida, it's our riding season!
The lowering blocks I have can be adjusted up an inch. I will try that first.
