We have purchased a motorhome and are getting ready to hit the road for an extended vacation..I want to take my Ultra, but the wife is balking at spending a bunch of money for a trailer(really wanted one of the tow dollys with the motorcycle platform on the front). She saw the motorcycle tow dolly/carrier on ebay. These are the ones that you mount the front wheel in with the carrier mounted to the trailer hitch receiver on the tow vehicle. Some are rated for bikes over 1000 lbs. My question is, have anyone had any experience with these? I wonder how the wear on the bikes rear tire/wheel bearings would be, and the tranny being in neutral with the belt turning all the time?
For me, there is no way I would tow my bike like that, with the wheel on the ground turning, wonder how many back tires it would go thru and the wear and tear. I would put a carrier mounted on the back that the bike is on sideways, like one of those hitch carriers people put on the back of cars, I have seen one before on a motorhome that had a couple of bikes on it, had a ramp to drive off of and put the ramp on the other side to drive up on, looked pretty good and no towing any trailers.

I've seen motorhomes in Yellowstone with those type carriers. I'm not sure about the rest of them but I know one of the carriers folded up flat against the back of the motorhome when the bike was off it. I don't think I would drag my bike behind me, the only kind of wear and tear the bike will suffer is when I'm on it.
Wouldn't be my choice either. I'd just get me a nice aluminum cargo trailer and have it out of the weather and out of sight with lots of room to spare for other stuff.
