Mine fits like yours (the OP's), not so good. It has to come off this weekend so I can put my Garmin mount on so I may screw with it and see if I can make it fit better.
First, as instructions state, loosen the stock ring a bit.
Next, have a second person squeeze the sides in a bit as you tighten the threads.
If you do not have a second person, use a rubber fitted clamp to put some pressure on the sides as you tighten the threads.
If it does not fit perfectly, try to ignore it. Nobody will notice it unless they are into bezel inspecting.
I've had this part on 3 different bikes. Never got a perfect fit on any of them, but as others have said, it takes a close look to see that it doesn't fit that Well....
Mine fits like **** over the stock ring too. I saw on here somewhere that someone used an Irwin Quick-Grip and got the gap at the bottom to close. I tried it and still have a gap.....just not as bad.

I have a small gap in mine but I guess I'm not obsessed with it like so many others? Just doesn't bother me I really bought it for the looks from the side and not head on.
I have the visor trim with a Phase 7 Truck-lite. Fits ok, but I have the opposite problem, its tight as I can get it, no gap, and its kind of loose, I can turn it around the light. Though it doesnt seem to vibrate around while riding...yet.
