Definitely save it for later! You never know when you might need it. I have stored my left over air for years at a time and used it without any problems. But I always store it in a climate controlled garage. This, I believe, is what makes all the difference!

How should I obtain 40 psi? I have one slider guage that maxis out at 60 and another, for my ATV that maxis out at 20. Could I apply the air untill the 60 maxis out and then release air, slowly, till the 20 is all, but maxed? would this be accurate enough to not throw a spoke?

I use smog air because i am a smoggy from the UK (its a uk thing you would have to google it) When all the air is gone the smog keeps the tyre up.

Do I need to pull a deep vacuum on the tire before installing the new air?

When replacing the air in the tires with the right color and pressure be sure to check the engines compression. If it's a little low you can use the left over air to boost it up. If you put in to much it may cause the muffler bearings to go bad. Take it from experience.
