Exactly! If ya like the cvo the way it is then go for it. But I know I'd be changing all kinds of stuff on any bike I get plus your cvo will be the same as all the other cvos out there. I say do the '09 up the way ya want it, same bike underneath.

I have 30,000 miles on the bike, and if I keep it want to put on new wheels, extended bags, custom paint. I guess the good news is that it's winter, the wife and I are in temp housing since we are building a house, and I have time to reflect in order to make the right decision. 15k on upgrades or "x" amount for a CVO and personal upgrades
Its doesnt matter what kind of touring bike you have. If you have a 09 or newer touring bike, there is no reason to trade it for anything else H-D makes. You already have the biggest part of the upgrade which is the motor and you also have the newer frame. Hell you could take that same $15k and mod that bike all over again with a BIGGER motor, wheels, chrome, and all the accessories you could imagine. Dont trade it. If the MoCo comes out with a new frame or some new technology that is significantly better and that cant be added to your current bike, then its not worth it. If anything, pay it off if it isnt already and mod it over time.

ALL CVO"S are just that CVO's so when your in FL or Ohio or Maine etc...somebody else is going to be riding a CVO! Spend the money on your current bike and make it your own! I have had fenders and other items fabricated for a one of kind look. Is it expensive? Yes, but not if you do most of the work and it certainly isn't as costly as a CVO.

Sorry to you CVO owners I just don't get it. The MOCO make some nice stuff but there are hundreds of smaller companies producing great products for a look that stands out!

Great suggestions here. Reading the whole thread a few things stand out to me.

Book value as mentioned. The CVO is always going to out value a non CVO at trade time which brings me to my point..... Are you a keeper or a purger???

If you keep things then this is a no brainer.... Dump the 15K into what you already have BUT if you're a purger and suffer from V.A.D.D. (vehicle attention deficit disorder) like myself and can't keep nice shiny things more than a few years before growing bored with them, then you'd be silly to dump money in your old bike.

Personally, I'd sell the 09 and buy the CVO. but again... I suffer from V.A.D.D.

You gotta do what feels right, but I guarantee you won't get much of the money you spend on your current bike when you decide to get rid of it, Depends on how much you really want a CVO.

I was in your shoes recently. I bought an 09 SG and left it at the dealer for a motor build. After adding more accessories my salesman emailed me and said that my final total was within a few thousand of a new CVO. He asked if I would be interested in going that route. I thought about it for a while and here's what I came up with. CVO's are being sold as they hit the showroom floor. If I bought one, there's a really good chance I'd see one just like it at bike night. My 09 is customized to my taste. There is no chance I will see one at bike night or anywhere else for that matter. That right there made me stay where I'm at.

If you're anything like me and enjoy working on your bike it's a no brainer. 15K to spend upgrading your 09? I'd be all over that, make it your own. The CVO's are to cookie cutter for my taste.
