Default CVO vs loaded RGC

I've got a deposit down on a 12 RGC with a big parts list, figured I'd get it all at once and get the benefit of having it all under warranty. I'm coming in around 27K after everythings said and done with parts, labor, etc.

I figured I'm not too far off of CVO prices at that point, so I was interested in hearing from CVO RoadGlide owners about their bikes. Are there things that you dont like, that you would change, is the bike really great stock and you dont feel the need to upgrade or add anything?

Just my own humble opinion, pretty much _every_ time I buy a new bike, and start accessorizing it, I realize I could have probably purchased a CVO. Would I still customize a CVO? Yes, but less so. And the bike would retain more of it's value. I balk at the initial cost, but realize I end up spending the equivalent, over time, or even more...

So, if you can afford the initial bank up front, I'd go CVO. I always tell myself, "next time"...

Don't have a Road Glide but the process is pretty much the same. New bike equals a ton of upgrades, ie; chrome, gauges, cams, etc, etc. So far, I have put a bit over $ 10k in upgrades to my 09 Ultra Classic. If I had to do it all over again, I would have purchased a CVO simple because most of the upgrades I have purchase already come on a CVO. About the only thing you will need to do on a CVO is upgrade mufflers ( at least here in CA due to the cats installed). No, in the long run, you will spend less on a CVO and have a beautiful bike from the get go. At least that's my take on it. And as others have said, the resale is much better on a CVO as opposed to stock. Another thought is; finding a used late model CVO can save you a few bucks as well. Some buy these beautiful CVO and don't put a lot of miles on them. I saw 2011 UC yesterday at our local HD dealer with less than 3000 miles on her. Can't remember the price but it was less than new. Rambling here, but you may consider used as well. Good Luck!!

The CVO bikes are like all Harleys in that you will probably want to change the exhaust and comfort items like seats, handlebars, windshields. You start with a slighter larger motor and SE-255 cams instead of the stock cams and lots of bling/special paint job. so exclude the costs of the comfort items and then see what the difference is and decide if it is worth the extra money.

i see it this way

NO.. you can't build a CVO for what they charge for it

YES.. you will probably change things on the CVO after you buy it

NO.. you will not get back nearly as much of your money if you sell a modded non-CVO bike

YES.. you will have a bike much closer to being EXACTLY what you want if you build it yourself

NO... you will not be able to express as much of your own taste and creatitvity if you start with a CVO

YES... there is a chance you will see another bike that looks pretty much just like yours when you're on a CVO

I have the good fortune of not being able to buy a new Glide, CVO or otherwise just now! It does seem to me that there are two aspects of a CVO; added performance, other add-ons. If I were in the market I would personally be less interested in the extra add-ons and more interested in the added performance. In that case a less expensive bike with an added 120R would be very attractive to me! It obviously depends what we each want of our ride.

to me it comes down to how long are you going to keep it , if you trade every other year the less mods you do the better you are on resale so a CVO is a good deal as it does not require many mods , me on the other hand typically keep a bike 8-10 years , my 2011 FLTRX I already have over 50K in , I don't want a CVO and look like everyone else with one , I mod my motor and get the performance and my looks and am a 1 of a kind , I loose a lot on upgrades when I resale but 8-10 years later I don't really care

I'm never a fan of waiting for the next model year to get features you might want, but if they go to a 120 for the CVO bikes in 2013, you're gonna be pissed.

i was like you. Buy a non CVO and update it to how i wanted. Dealer even told me, you like to work on them too much to even think about a CVO. then the black and white skunk model CVO RGC came out. I loved the color and had to have one. Have i changed anything..... Yes, eliminated the cat, by installing the full sac x pipe. modified the mufflers with the full sac re-core. Got rid of that awful heavy breather and installed the ventilator and installed a TTS master tune. Results, it runs cooler, it has loads of power, and is exactly what i wanted. Am i going to change anything else? Will probably add some highway pegs to the front crash bar. Other than that, i am done, until i need a full rebuild, then who knows. Total additional add on cost, approx $1350. X pipe, baffles and TTS, ventilator air cleaner approx $1200, highway pegs approx $150

go for the CVO, you will not be sorry.

I decked out a 2009 Street Glide and had more money in it (and I wasn't done) than my 2012 CVO Stree Glide has cost me.

But back in 2009 they didn't make a CVO Street Glide, but they did make a CVO Road Glide. I should have bought it.
