Hey guys u been wanting to upgrade my front headlight lens and my passing lights. I have a 99 roadking and want to put the clear lens in part number
68342-05 it says it's for 00-2005. Has anyone fitted one on a 99 or any other options. Thanks in advance
I can't answer that but you can take off your existing light and see if it has the same 3 prong connections. If so there shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise there are other brighter bulbs that can be bought at auto parts stores, at least for the 7". Not sure about the auxiliary lights.
The one on my '99 RK, the previous owner had a bulb smoke the lens when it blew. I cleaned it with very little effort.
Remove the bulb, and use a long pair of hemostats or something to hold a piece of cloth soaked in mineral spirits. Be sure to let the fumes evaporate or blow it dry with compressed air.
Unless yours is cloudy on the outside from being sandblasted for so many years...
...otherwise the budget fix is to buy a late model stock housing from one of the trucklite/ HD led upgrade Guys.
I see them for about $60 here and there.
the optics of the late model are really good.
2.) the HD halogen passing light kit supplies better optics and 35 watts a side ( stock sealed beams are 30 watts)
for a headlight bulb, and H$ style will work but the best results may come from s sylvania or a phillips "silverstar" or "extravision" type - any auto parts store.
you could get an "off road" type high watt bulb but there are draw backs. all the current for the front lighting runs through the ignition switch on your model, and those switches can only tolerate so much...then the contacts burn and pit. and you are stranded roadside with an expensive fix ahead.
high watt bulbs can be run if you rewire the front and use relays. I ran 90/110 headlight and 2 x 55 watt spots on my evo...but ran everything through relays ( which only cost $12 each)
on my late model, I find the optics are so good I have no reason to change anything
the headlight reflector is pretty much interchangable on all 7" harleys...my 1953 has a 2009 reflector in it- with a 6 volt bulb to match the old style electrics
That style you show is good and better than what you have but the 2006 and up version has better optics.
so look for a newer one if you decide to change.
do try cleaning the old one first though...save some money.
so i wanted to order a light from a 2006 model as posted they have better optics. to my surprise somone had a light from a 2007 street glide for $40
they are 198 in canada where i went so great stuff for me. any how i can tell you the light will directly fit no issues or altering so if any guys want to upgrade the headlight housing to better optics it will work.
E Code reflector and a Hella bulb, best cheap light upgrade if you plan to stay conventional instead of going with the popular LED craze for a ridiculous amount of money.
