I'm going to agree with HKMark23 and many others....
It's a super-expensive for what it is, but honestly, it's pretty well designed and makes life a little more convenient (and cleaner) for home mechanics like myself. I used it for all types of bikes, cars, trucks and my buddies boat. I have even given a few as Xmas presents to non-riding friends and they all appreciate it and use it to this day.
Other than critical parts for the bike, I pretty much go out of my way to avoid the over-priced HD branded accessories....but this is one the very few that I can say I would buy all over again without hesitation.
Tried everything to prevent oil spillage. Nothing works, I spill some every time. Now I just pull the drain plug and let it all drain on the floor and then mop it up. Floor is a little slippery now.
Got the Harbor Freight one, too; haven't used it yet but the scoot's up on the lift now, so I'll know soon if I like it...cost me $9.95, Could've made it out of a heaver gauge plastic is my first thought

Like I said I've been using this one for awhile now and no problems what so ever. I've filled it and drained it a few times now. It even fits under the bike while it's on it's kickstand. Which was convenient a couple of times. I'm sure the HD branded one is very similar. They work great
I think the Harley one is very well built. Seals well when you put the plugs in. Drain all 3 boxes at once without any issue. You get what you pay for :-)
For all you slobs who can't help but spill oil when changing, go to your nearest pet store, pick up a carton of puppy pee pads and spread a couple of these under your bike before you start your oil change. All the spilled oil is absorbed in the pad and won't penetrate to the floor. When you are done, fold it up and into the trash. Floor stays nice and clean. I know this because I am one of the biggest slobs when it comes to oil changes. Now I don't fret it any longer.
As far as a tray goes, I use an empty windshield washer jug with the side cut out. Works like a charm and cheap as hell.
For $2 you can buy a 5 gal. bucket at Home Depot and cut it down to fit under any H-D. And it's H-D Orange to boot.
Spending $30 on a drain pan only makes sense if it comes with a very personal massage w/happy ending.
