Well, went ahead and orderes some 12" bagger apes...I pulled in tje the dealer yesterday after a nice ride and there was a guy with some and i asked if i could sit on it to try them and WOW, i like them...I didn't go with the Monkey bars, i went with the standard smooth ones...It looks like i may be able to keep my standard wires and cables??? not sure yet...I went from stock to HD Touring 2" pullback and now to this...I will be taking the inner fairing to paint it so i decided it was time...I will be priming the inner fairing and cap and finish sand myself then take it to a body shop to let them paint when the do a black car that way they don't have to mix a batch of paint....i will also learn about the cable then...The nice thing about it is now i have a 2nd bike i can ride so i don't feel too bad about doing a project like this.
There are probably a thousand shades of black and or cherry black. I would think you want it to match the rest of the bike?????
I thought about that and gloss black goes with anything... i may change my mind...will talk to my painter...he is the guy that thought me when i took a Body shop class with the local Community college. My buddy had a red RK with a fairing and the inner part was black and it looked good like that....I just want it painted to get rid of the faded parts for good.
I just put 12.5" wild one bagger apes on my ultra classic and still trying to get used to them. Like them so far, but kind of thinking i should have went with 10". I moved my mirrors below the bars to keep them from sticking up too high! I hope to get some pictures posted today.
You're gonna love the higher bars. One of the best mods I've done to my bike and worth all the time and effort IMO. I have several hours on the bike with my Khromewerks fat apes and couldn't be happier!
I had Magnum Shielding make all my cables and brake lines. Great customer service and quality products if you decide you need longer cables!
If i need cables i will just get the HD standard ones just longer. Not much on the bling plus my bike stays pretty dirty...wash it 4 times a year or so...I am afraid to wash the clearcoat off...LOL
I had 12" mini apes on my RK. They were perfect! I had my Indy do it and he had to extend the clutch cable, but I think he was able to work with the stock brake line. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
I now need to get a set for my Limited.
I think at 75000 miles i need to change my clutch cable just for the plain reason of age for preventive maintenance...I am gonna compare the cost of painting the inner fairing to match the bike or to just paint it black while the painter has a black job in the shop which he says he has about twice a week...
By the way, i want to give a plug to Eastern Performance Cycles... $99.00 free shipping...I normally don't gice a plug to non-sponsor vendors but they have always been a good vendor for me.
