I understand, but there's a world of difference between a quick stage one fueling clean up and for instance at the extreme end dumping a 120r race engine into a tourer - isn't there?
Yes there is, I haven't really thought about it but if I had all the extra cash needed to do it I might do it too. I had a friend with a hopped up hardtail and when he smoked me off the line on my old import I was impressed and learned a lesson about how important torgue was compared to HP. I'm sure he had a big grin knowing that he got me off the line and I'll bet it was worth every penny to him. Bottom line unlimited money I might do it, till then I'll keep looking for a good deal on a used Ducati or the like.
The major drawbacks would be pushrod valves and air cooling.
The chassis is way heavy.
Tell this nonsense to the designers at Yamaha that have a heavyweight touring bike, push rod motor and air cooling that it's a bad platform. It's called a Stratoliner, pushing out right at 100 hp stock. Harley refuses to do it because it would kill their Screamin Eagle Nonsense, or should I say Screamin Beagle, or their designers and engineers are just too stupid to figure it out.
Because I want a Harley and that is what we unfortunately have to do.
If I wanted a powerful Road King like bike (with no soul) I would pick up a Honda Valkyrie like my best bud has and be done with it. But as fun as that bike is, it ain't a Harley.

100hp stock my ***. The yamaha 113 dyno hp is in the low 80s. The torque is in the 107 lb area.
There is more to riding a bike than pure power. If power were the only thing that mattered, the rocket III and the Boss Hoss would be outselling Harleys by the boatload.
I don't think anyone goes directly from stock to a 120r motor - it's like eating hot peppers - you get accustomed to what you have and want more. Once you own a bike you can make improvements a little at a time and have fun doing it.
I felt the same way coming off my VTX-1800 that i used to call the Harley killer, and when i bought my Glide i understood why it was so easy for me to smoke my buddies on HD's. As for "sole" umm ok. Stage one is coming in the spring.
