I think I will sit this convo out. ;-)

But to the OP it's really fun showing the punk kid on his crotch rocket how GOOD a Harley can run

I'm modding my scoot as we speak. Why? Its what I like to do. I have to extract e ery ounce out of e erything I have just for a reason to tinker with it. I like wrenching on crap almost more than riding it. All our quads are tweaked the kids rzr is tweaked even if I had thee fastest streetbike available I would have to find a way to get more out of it. Would I use the potential probably not but I would enjoy doing it lol. To each his own but its one of my hobbies. My brother n law thinks I'm nuts. That's fine. He can go ride around on his stocker at 3g rpm it just don't work for me.

Nothing I own stays stock. Not my bikes, cars, guns, etc. You suggest maybe buying a sportbike that is already fast... Well stock fast is rarely enough. I have had a busa for four years, silly fast when I first got it and now it has a turbo hanging off the front of the engine.

Stock sucks, upgrades = personal character and individualism.

Agree. HD wont ever be fast.......I would trade the RK in....get your $14k( thats what my local dealer would give) and get a used Stratoliner. They are all over the place used, low miles for $8900 to 10k. The new ones can be had for $10500 to 11000. Saw a nice one on eBay.

I've always wanted Harley products and have so far never owned anything else. From a very young age, it was HD that caught my eye and my imagination. I've never been a real speed freak, and am not likely to make whiplash educing take offs or break neck top speeds the primary focus of any purchase. I prefer to measure enjoyment.

That being said, I want my chosen product to perform to it's fullest potential within reason. Balancing performance with longevity of the engine. Stage 1 or 2 have always been fine for me. So I stay with HD because its what I prefer to ride, and I enhance performance because I want it to move out of it's own way when I need it to.

Cool

The reason for 'improving' performance in my case is not power, but torque and rideability. I've owned Harleys since the 70s, my Glide since new in 1990. Having ridden it originally bone stock I did the usual stage 1, followed by cam and ignition module, then 89" stroker kit, now an S&S 107". I can see a case for a 131"!

Why? Each step along the way has improved the ride, by giving better get away from stationary, climbing of hills, just rolling the throttle in top gear. When touring I reckon we tip the scales at around 1200 pounds and moving that lot briskly needs plenty of torque. None of this is to try and set the tarmac alight, just improve the Harley experience.

Exactly as he stated! I love the change and then measuring the gains (if there are gains).
I'm excited with my current Stage IV 103 w/ 117hp and 111tq screaming to redline in a pass around a truck or whatever, BAM gone.
But as above, there is a case to be made for a 120", or a 124", or maybe even larger.... Or some kind of mild forced induction with a water to air intercooler and the internals to handle the bump in intake pressures putting stresses everywhere down stream in the motor and beyond, as do higher compression builds.
If I had the new Kawasaki 1400 that runs 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile out of the box, I would be adding aftermarket parts to make it an 8 second rocket AND corner better.
POINT #1The change is the fun, getting a plan, then buying parts and doing the install, all major fun.
POINT#2Riding the bike with the changes and feeling your choices (changes) for better or worse.
POINT#3Buying American, it is better for all of us in this country, and, important for supporting manufacturing jobs here in the USA
I love our country, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

A motorcyclists obsessed with power is no different than a teenage boy obsessed with pu**y. It consumes you until you've had your fill. After that, you'll obsess about something else...looks, all day riding comfort, latest gadgetry, etc...it's human nature.

I've owned a bike that will stretch out your arms and lift the wheel in 3rd gear just from rolling on too much. It was an awesome ride. However, it wasn't a bike you would ride from Key West to Seattle. Sure, some guys will say they can ride a GSXR that far, but I've never seen one and I highly doubt I ever will.

You can modify your perfect long distance stead to handle better in the mountains when you get to them. You can modify it to carry your heavy *** up the mountain too. We can modify our bikes until it fits our needs...then we'll change what we need.

Im a motorcyclist obsessed with power and pu**y. No matter how many times I empty my wallet on either, I never seem to get my fill... I might be consumed for life, which is alright by me
