I am seriously debating height of apes/minapes to get for my EG. I am curious about how much wind/cold you get directed at you when the bars are above the top of the fairing (bars taller then 14s). How much wind gets blown back on your face and chest with the hands up in the airstream? Do you experience full impact of the air on your hands (especially in the cold) or does the fairing still push it up and over your hands?
I had 14" PYO Monkey Bagger Bars on my SG. IMHO, the fairing still pushed the air around my hands too, even though they were above the fairing.
Perhaps the fairing offered a small amount of direct protection, but I found that the air behind the fairing was more turbulent, so air from the front was just one portion of the problem. Even with stock bars, my hands still had a bunch of wind hitting them.
I did not notice any difference of having my arms higher causing the wind to hit my chest/head any more than it did before. Only difference was that wind would now go down my sleeves - but that's nothing a good pair of gauntlet gloves couldn't fix.
I also had an 8" Long Ride Shields Ultra Flip too.
I run 14" Wild1 apes. I dont notice any more wind in the face vs. the stock bars. Your hands are in the wind with 14's. So in cold weather good gloves are a must have.
