you'll lose the compensator assembly if you go belt....what the comp does is to buffer the hit of the engine...when youre puttin, a belt will be less smooth
The belt itself provides the damping (similar to how a belt rear drive bike does not require a cush drive rear hub, but most chain rear drive bikes use them). It's just as smooth now as with the chain, if not smoother. This was immediately noticeable. Plus shifts are much smoother, and the motor revs up a lot quicker. Not to mention, the primary is now virtually maintenance-free.
