I'm getting ready to install a new FM 107 kit with level B heads on my 2010 Road Glide. I have the AIM Variable pressure clutch that I'm going to put in. Do I need the SE Clutch Spring as well or is the AIM all I need with the stock spring? I'd like to keep the same clutch feel. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Troop. I need to ask Jaime a few quesitons anyway so I'll just add this one to the list. I've been reading other posts (should have done a search first) and it looks like the stock one will work. I'll post and let you know what Jaime says.
Ok, I just spoke with a tech at FM and he said you can do one or the other, you don't have to do both. That works for me since I have the AIM already installed and the SE spring sitting on my bench. I like the feel of the clutch lever and didn't want that to change.
I had AIM Variable pressure clutch with SE spring in my old Fat Bob. It held up to my 120 with 130lb of torque, it was supposed to handle 153lb of torque. The AIM website says an 06 and later stock clutch spring with their weighted plate is supposed to handle up to 120lb of torque.
I had their 178kgf plate in my bike for a while great if u dont have to shift or stop. was just way too stiff. can with 255 kit . took it out and put stock plate back in only had 107 torque so why kill my hand
when i had my 107 done, i cheaped out and went with the se spring. when i first rode the bike, the first thought was, 'holy crap, that clutch is tight!' after riding for a while, i just couldn't get past how tight it was. going down the highway was fine, but slow speed, friction zone type stuff was just a bear.
put the stock spring back on, with the vpc clutch. much better. at slow speeds, the pull is app the same as stock, if not easier. at high speeds it is tighter, but it isn't like you have to hold it partially in. just pull and release....
If you do have to add the spring later its still a softer lever feel with the VPC then the spring alone. I had the spring alone before VPC. Also, the spring alone softens a little bit after a couple thousand miles.
Run it like it is and worse case if you start to feel any slipping in the higher gears just add the heavy spring?
I run the heavy and the VPC 92 and it feels just like stock to me, I might just be use to it by now?
