Back in the 70's they were a hot commodity.
People trying to get better fuel mileage were taping them to the fuel line just prior to the carb. Was supposed to polarize the fuel. Ended up on the shelf next to the platinum screen that fit in the venturi, lol.
Re the screw, I was just working on my bike and found an exhaust mount nut and washer under the starter. I didn't lose it and might have been there since day one. Also check the area where the wiring is run inside the lower frame.
i thought i would update you guys! i just got that bitch out!!!!!!! i tried 4 different types of magnets, tried a borescope, coat hanger, bent a piece of sheetmetal. finally got a 3/16 diameter by 3/8 deep magnet on a semi flexible rod and it was super powerful. got it out in 5 minutes of trying with that magnet. god i feel so much better now! now its time to go ride!!
Great news. I've been following your story like a soap opera. You must feel like a huge weight has been lifted. I'll bet it even affected your sleep. I'll bet you never allow a thing like that to happen again. I know people who opened up a motor because of the same kind of thing. Well done. The majority of responders suggested the magnet and in the end it was the right thing.

my nephew went to the doctor with a rock stuck in his ear..the doctor used a piece of tubing ..stuck it in his ear sucked on it and the rock stuck to the tubing and he pulled it out of his ear...So maybe a piece of 3/8" vacuum hose attached to a shop vac. may work for you...just a thought...
Reminds me of the time my younger, dumb assed brother tells me he has bad gas in his peanut tank. Instead of pulling the hose off the petcock and just draining the gas into a can he gets a bright idea. I looked up just in time to see him jaub the hose of the electric shop vac into the neck of the gas tank. Anybody see where this is going??
