BG Weasel,

I was able to ride right up until Dec 24th here so I didn't really think a couple of months would hurt my battery ..But after realizing it may be idle until May or so, I thought it might be wise to check out the battery or hook up to a battery tender...I have worked on my previous bikes, but they weren't Harleys, so I thought the more info I could get the better.. I try not to ask stupid questions, but I appreciate the information and experience everyone has.

Mike.

Does your bike have a passenger strap over the seat?

If so, one end of the strapmay have to be removed to get the seat off. On my Street Glide, the strap is mounted behind the front saddlebag brackets. Soyouhave to remove at least one bag and one front bracket to free up one end of the strap in order to remove the seat. Though I'm not sure on your bike.

My passenger seat strap came off as soon as I got my bike home.

Soos,

did you put the luggage rack on your tour pak, or did the dealer put it on? I'm just wondering how hard it is to install? I noticed you have one in the picture with your truck..

thanks,

Mike.

Did it myself. It comes with a template for the hole locations. It is an easy installation. Drilling is no problem either. You drill 2 holes. A pilot hole first with a 1/8 bit then the finish hole. Won't let the dealer do anything.

After removing the battery in my RK several times I placed 1 1 1/2 wide nylon strap under the battery with the two ends on top. This gives you a handle to pull the battery up while disconnecting the cables and then pull it out with the strap. Put it back in with the strap and just lower it in. My Road King is real tight on space and not much room to get you hand and fingers around the battery.

The strap under the battery is a good idea. I do that myself. Don't know why you would remove it for winter charging, hook up a battery tender and forget it. Better yet, ride it!
