Default Links for battery removal..

Does anyone have urls/links for information/diagrams for getting to the battery on an '06 Ultra, (and all the removal of whatever), for winter charging? I bought the service manual, but it's as clear as mud..

thanks in advance,

Mike.[sm=biker.gif]

Mike, have you looked at the battery itself? It's under the saddle - pop the saddle, connect leads an' go.

Don't have an ultra but usually just take the seat off and there should be a hold down bracket for battery. Then it's just the two battery terminals. Very easy. If you have a tender just connect the adapters to the battery.

Undo the terminal connections and lift out the battery.[sm=bangbang.gif] Best to leave it in the bike and hook up a battery tender.

Ok, but don't you have to take the hard bags off to take off the saddle? (My memory is fading, but from I remember, you had to take off some things to get to the saddle)

Mike.

Mike:
I don't have a link, etc. for battery removal, but it is a very simple task. Remove the seat. See battery and the torx bolt securing the hold-down tab. Remove the torx bolt and the tab and set aside. Remove the positive and negative cables from the battery with the appropriate wrench. Grasp battery with both hands and lift straight up. Voila!
You can charge the battery in-situ if you merely install the leads from a pigtail for one of the popular battery tenders to the battery terminals.

Mike.
Not necessary to remove the bags. Remove the screw from the tab at the rear of the pillion, lift rear of seat and lift up and away from the tank. The front of the seat has a tongue that fits in a slot.

Mr. Wonderful, by pillion, do you mean seat?

No disrepect meant...but if you have trouble just taking the seat off, are you sure you want to mess with the battery?

Your battery will be in there TIGHT and there's not much slack in the cables, so be ready for a chore if you really want to remove the battery. It's relatively heavy and there's not much to grab onto to lift it out. Like somebody else said, it's easier to just connect battery tender leads and leave the battery in the bike.

And no matter what you decide to do, be sure to disconnect the negative battery lead FIRST and then keep it away from the frame. Remember, you're working near a gas tank and fuel lines.

Mike,
Yes.....it would be the passenger portion of the seat. Some seats are one peice, some two peice. I'm assuming you have a one peice saddle.....long and seats you and a passenger.
