2007 Street Glide was mostly stock. Changed out bars to Santee 11 inch Dresser Apes with stainless steel cables and lines. Didn't need to lengthen wires, just reroute.
While I was at it... I wanted black bars but got a good deal on chrome, so I tried something as an experiment. Coated the bars in plastidip. While it was apart I thought to myself, self, how about doing the inner fairing and the forks while you're at it. If anyone is interested I will let you know how it holds up. In the mean time it may tell me which route to go with a repaint. Flat or gloss, I'm on the fence.
New mirrors and levers to go with the bars. Stock mirrors had to go so the holes were filled with the bumper plugs from Lowes. They look good and were a whopping $.80 for the pair. Just had to drill out the small hole a little bit and the plug snapped right in to cover both holes right up.
While I was in there I found that my stock speakers had broken and the tweeters had fallen off of them both. So my ears are now being treated to a new pair of Infinity Reference speakers. For the low cost of $110 retail, these things sound pretty good.
Also changed out front wheel for a 2012 take off. Nice change here. New chrome front axle and spacers required. Painted the inner circle on the brake rotors with black spray paint. Again, if interested I will let you know how it holds up.
Got it back together today and went and put 50 miles on her before dinner. Nice and comfy with the bars, and the tunes are better too. Sure is good to live in Florida.
Plastic coated the front forks? Thats an interesting concept I hadn't heard of before. I'd be interested in how it holds up. Personally, thats a lot of work disassembling the front end and putting it back together if it happens not to hold up well. Your braver than I would be! Let us know how it does?
The extra black really makes a difference. Nice. Not sure about the plasti-dip but worth a try. If it doesn't work, here is a real cheap and easy way to get some gloss black on there minus the parts that take high heat. I did this to the forks on a friend's WG and it turned out awesome. Didn't even remove the forks Looks great one year later and believe me this friend of mine doesn't take care of anything.
