I have an 2001 EGC which is carbed, and I want to change out the stock carb with the Mikuni 42. I bought the "easy" carb from Ebay. Can I still use my stock air box?
Yep. There is a little adapter ring for the front of the carb, like the one i linked below. If you bought a kit it may come with it, if not you can see they are fairly cheap.
Just installed a Mikuni HRS 42 Flatside carb on my 2001 EGC today. Man, what a big difference! It sure woke my bike up. I was disappointed with the Andrews 26A cam, but this Mikuni carb is wicked bad! I bought the Mikuni off EBay new in the box. It was the easy kit. Took me about thirty minutes to install. I had to file a couple of cooler find that was in the way. I would recommend this to anyone still running a stock HD carb. The only tuning I had to to was adjust the idle. Once one, she stated right up. My stock K&N filter and housing fit right on. Easiest up grade and wow, what a big difference in power!
You might want to change you accelerator pump nozzle to a # 60. The stock #70 is very rich.Did you get the slide rattle sound at idle........they almost all do it.

Where are you located in WPB? I grew up there, miss water skiing with the gators in the PB canal.
Installed mine on a 2000 EGC last September. Love mine, no rattles as mentioned above, and what a difference! Mine is a little cold natured though, versus the stock. I picked up a lot of "seat of your pants" torque down low - I am running an Andrews 21 Cam and so far so good! PS - Did change pump but can't remember what to, however, gas mileage on my bike improved over stock! ENJOY!!

Thanks
Stock air box will be no problem.
I installed one on my 02' FXDWG3 when I built the TC88 into a TC97 with Woods TW9BG cams, 10.5/1's ...bolt on directly out of the box. It was a flawless carb. I can see a stock bike needing a smaller main though ..as my build was spot on using the dyno sniffer.
Mine came with a larger nozzle and main jet, but runs great just how it is. Getting 41 MPG...but it rips through the gears...it really woke up the Andews 26 cams
