this sounds like the perfect situation to look into XiEDs or the other version they offer

a stock air cleaner - only swapping the filter to the K&N is NOT the same as changing to the open element like the SE Heavy Breather or any other OPEN element

IF you swapped to an OPEN ELEMENT you need a tuner

just putting exhaust on does not mean you need a tuner either

but I would probably put the best version of the knightrider plugs into the system to help richen up the system some - cause it doesn't hurt on a stock bike, and it should be a better choice for yours now that you modified it slightly

we did the exact same set up on the wife's 2011 FatBoy - put on a rush full exhaust system and I swapped her air filter over to the K&N (although it's just a better filter in the same old football cleaner that is stock) so maybe slightly better flow, but marginal, but a better filter to keep out crap - we put on the XiEDs on her bike and the plugs do not show a lean condition

That is not correct, the stock paper filter does not flow **** compared to a K & N Filter. No matter if it's exposed or behind the "football" cover.

But if it works for you, that's all that matters.........

so you are arguing a point that no one made - what I said was the K&N stocker with a stock back plate doesn't flow like the open element - not that it doesn't flow BETTER than stock

and on a stock back plate with stock engine, stock head pipes and simple slip ons and the K&N stocker - you do not NEED a tuner

you may choose one - sure, but NEED one - no

the XiEDs or ViEDs will handle that simple mod list

And the bike will be running leaner then when it came from the factory with aftermarket slip-ons and a high flow filter. Yes, the XiED's should richen up the mixture but their far from being a fuel management device. BUT AGAIN, if it works for you or others, that's all that matters.

I'm running the exact same setup on my 08 Ultra no problems and have checked plugs at different intervals and no lean issues.

Yes, To fully gain the benefits you are looking for by addding the air cleaner and mufflers without worrying about pinging and heat issues, I like the Power Commander tuner and run the USB 3 on my '03 and the 5 on my '13
