Fixed my Air Temp Gauge . . . maybe
Anybody ever try this or know anything about the sensor??
As far as the wiring modification, I do not know.
Make sure you do a "search" since moving the sensor has been discussed many times before.
Stop with the technical talk! lol
I plan to do the same thing actually. It's on my short list of things to do to the bike as it drives me insane to have temp readings 10 degrees or more off!
Where is the sensor and what's it look like? I want to do this asap actuallyso any tips would help.
Unless the wire you spliced in is smaller than the existing one I doubt what you did willcause an electrical problem. Just choosing where to mount the sensor is the main thing.
You will find the sensor under the fairing on the upper left side (setting
on the bike). It is white and small. If you are not sure which one it is
just check the wire color at the back of the gauge. Cut the wires (2) and
splice in a foot or so of the same size wire. You can then mount the sensor
with double side tape outside the fairing. I mounted mine on the triple tree
(don't put it on the bottom or it will hit the fender). One guy drilled a
small hole through the inner fairing and mounted it by the cig lighter. You
can also paint it black or whatever, and it will not affect the reading.
Good luck

I have not tried it yet but it is on my to do list.
my 06 flhtci read about 20 - 25 degrees high all the time.
2 dealers told me that is normal and that HDMOCO knows about it.
It's supposedly caused by being in the fairing and no air flow.
Just another case of p*ss poor engineering by HDMOCO and them not giving a sh*t about
us the people that keep them in business by buying their bikes.
Well one dealer changed out the temp module and it seems better.
Why have a damn gauge on the bike if it is not accurate????
Wonder what HDMOCO would do if your oil pressure gauge always read correct
but in reality pump was only supply 3-4 psi all the time.
Would it be your fault or theirs????
On the other hand. I have an 01 flhtci. Kind of a basket case, so don't know if gauge was
accurate or not.
But the fairing was all broke, so I decided to use this as a builder bike and do a somewhat radical
custom job.
raked front out to 34 from 28 degrees and left fairing off.
Untangled the mess of factory wiring and cut and lengthened and shortened almost every wire
in the system except the wire that feeds the air temp senor and the critical FI sensor wires and ECM wires. The temp module wire,I just peeled back until it under the seat behind the battery by rear fender. will see how it works.
I spliced in about a foot of wire and moved the air temp sensor from under the fairing, and velcro'd it down behind the chrome plate between the forks right under the fairing (don't know what that things called). Anyway it should work much better now because it's out in the air but still shielded by the chrome thingy, but in my garage it seems that now it's reading too low by about 10 degrees. I wonder if changing the length of the wires has changed the resistance causing ashift, or if I just need to let it stabilize longer.
Anybody ever try this or know anything about the sensor??

I think a blue wire to it. guess I could get out of my recliner and cross room to look. But too lazy and too many jack and coke!
Yes I am doing a complete frame up rebuild in my living room! Too damn cold in the garage.
"by the chrome thingy"

But personally instead of moving it around, if bike is under warranty I would make HDMOCO fix it right, and not be satisfied until it is.
There is no reason to put up with shoddy engineeringfrom the factory like that.
like I said 2 different dealers told me HDMOCO knows about the problem, just refuses to make necessary production changes to correct it. in other words F... you if you don't like it.
wells thats just how I feel about it. don't expect anyone to agree with me, but that's life!
