Default Questions about EITMS

I was reading about the engine temp system on my '13 FLHTK. The manual says it kicks in when:

Engine temperature exceeds 284 °F 140 °C (all except configuration J and L) or 324 °F 162 °C (configuration J and L only)

My questions are:

What do the J and L codes mean and how do you tell what you have?

Why would HD want some configurations to run so much hotter before management kicks in?

I assume when they say engine temp they are referring to head temp?

Btw I have experienced it kicking in and it is like sitting on the mother of all thumpers!

Thanks!

Refer to position 6 in the VIN Breakdown to identify configuration calibration.

Maybe the Middle Eastern Versions have a higher value since it's already 150 in the desert.

J and L are the codes for bikes made for Brazil and Asia. You can see the definitions in your owner's manual, near the front, where it explains the VIN.
