Default Tour Pack tether mod

I replaced the stock Tour Pack tether almost as soon as I bought my bike. The standard one got left hanging out of the Tour Pack almost every time I shut it. However, the tiny little cable on the retractable one seemed hardly strong enough to hold the lid. I was always worried about it breaking. So, I bought a second one and mounted it opposite of the other one. Now, it's double tethered and never in the way.

I just drilled a hole in the lit side bracket and mounted the cable end with a bushing, nut, bolt and washer. On the tub side, I took the right most bolt and nut out of the mount for the little padded curtain under the passenger backrest and put in a longer one with a coupe of nuts as spacers. Works like a champ! KEWEL!

Glad it works for you for sure. Seems like overkill to me, mine works fine, I'm just careful not to whip the lid open.

Always check to be sure the eyelets at the tether ends rotate freely Tethers fail because the eyelets don' rotate and chafe the tether to the point of failure.

On our '12 when we got it, the tether would lip out almost every time we closed the lid so I took it loose figured out which way it was twisted to give it that direction and twisted it back a half turn from the installed set, works fine now and pulls itself into the bag everytime.

...not so fun when the teather cable gets wrapped around itself making it almost impossible to open the tour pac.
Only happened to me once, just as I was gettting to leave work late one night!
