Warranty can be a problem if you go beyond a Stage 1 installed by anyone other than the dealer. Harley makes some higher level kits for the 103" that if installed by dealer will still be covered by warranty.
Chattanooga, tried to PM you but can't figure it out

You need to get a few more posts on the forum to be able to PM.

Just got off the phone with the guys at my local indy shop. Called to tell me my 2012 FLHX was ready. I had them install Andrews 48's. With just a SE A/C and the cams, HP went from high 60's to over 90 and torque from the mid 80's to over 100. They are dyno meisters. I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow and head to FLA.

Oh, I took the cat out of the header too.

Chattanooga is probably a bit far to join in on local rides. Welcome to the forum anyway. Once you get a few more posts there is a Welcome in the upper right with PM access under it. Just welcome some other new folks to the forum and you'll get there. Once you get the message count photos will be accessable too. I think there is a sticky in the new member area telling how many posts to get full access. I think its 5-10.

When I bought my 08 SG I had the dealer install a P/C, Stage 1, and SE slip ons. Ran my bike for about 4 years that way and would run with any 96" with no engine mods. Over the winter I decided it was time for something more. I added the SE A/C, Thunder Header 2-1 with falsee, and S&S 551 cams. What a huge difference the current mods made!!!!! I took my bike for a long ride after the thunder header and SE A/C were installed before I had the cams done. Even without the cams I felt a big difference with those mods compared to the stage 1 and SE slip ons.

Welcome and congrats on affording a new Street Glide.

I come from a different point of view on taking a brand new bike that you don't even know how to ride well yet and turn it into a street racer.

Personally I cannot understand the desire to buy a new bike and then feel it needs more power ... for what?

You will be amazed at how much performance is built into a new bike. It's not all horsepower and torque that shoots you down the road as fast as a rocket. It still boils down to understanding your ride, and experience handling it.

Once you "tamper" with it there's no going back.

Now I will agree with improvements. The stock cam is made for EPA and does limit your performance. The stock ignition is preset to meet EPA. And of course the carb, pipes and breather all are again limited to meet strict EPA rules.

You will be pleased with the performance of a stock machine like the Street Glide over a 1200 Sportster. I'd give it the full warranty period before I would do anything. But again that's my way of thinking.

Because stock 103 performance sucks!! Runs hot, way underpowered, etc., etc...

No he wouldnt. A stock 1200 sportster will leave the stock 103 bikes in the dust!!! How do I know? My wife has a 2012 Nighster 1200 and before I did my 103 stage I with cams, she would always leave me behind...

Stick around awhile and maybe you'll understand.

BTW, how do you know if he knows how to ride it well or not?

Well said, these people that have no idea who they are talking to, let alone know what type of riding they do, should not bash the SE255's. Its ok to put a Harley cam in your bike. I cant wait to get mine in.
