2012 pipes are quite a bit louder than the stock pipes that came on the '09 bikes. The '09-'10 models had a long baffle on one side that really killed the noise.

You can get a set of pipes with interchangeable baffles at American Custom.

If you look at the page below, the "street friendly" touring baffles are actually the '09-'10 stock baffles. The "mid rumble" baffles are the stock baffles off a '12.

I guess if you want super quiet you could order two sets of "street friendly" baffles and use both long ones. That should give you the result you are looking for.

Just in case anyone has not heard but Samson has some fairly quiet mufflers for the dressers. The Decibel Killer mufflers are about 84 dB at idle with a very nice deep mellow tone while riding. These are free flowing mufflers for the person looking to be just a little more than stock.
Thank you,
JR

I wish Samson and other brands had a set a mufflers a person could rent to see if they liked them,I've tried various " quiet" mufflers only to be disappointed and lose money reselling them.

harley makes its own version of the supertrapps as well, they have the epa stamp, and can also have discs added or subtracted or end caps changed from open to closed u can easily get them to be much quieter than stock and they will still breath better than stock.

Had a Supertrapp on my RK with a hopped up 103. Pipe came with a closed cap and 16 disks. Riding it over to have the bike dyno tuned I though dam this is quieter than stock. Got the bike back with open end cap and 11 disks not so quiet, but a whole lot more power.
Point is with the Supertrapp you can make it quieter than stock.

I got the Vance and Hines EPA compliant mufflers. I think that they have a much lower tone at idle, but get real quiet going down the road.

I can sell you my French oem mufflers, you will not ear them...

I had Supertrapp on mine but i swap them for US 4" CVO ones. They are quieter but you can hear them and they sound nice. I will maybe add Fullsac cores when i'll do a 95/98" build not too lose too much HP

I like quiet myself. The gutted Vance and Hines pipes mine came with couldn't come off fast enough.

OEM take offs are readily available for cheap on ebay. That's the route I went. Found a set that were of the same year, and mounted them.

Personally, I'm not so sure that Supertrapps are quieter for the rider, because of the way they splat the sound sideways. That's quite different than out the back.

I haven't experimented with the Harley on this yet, but you can also muffle down the sound with sound absorbing materials and deflectors. Though the bags themselves do a dandy job of this already.

If anyone wanted a set of rusted right out of the box Quiet M-244 Samsons to try out let me know since I will not be using these on my brand new bike. These are quieter than stock and sound nothing like the sound bite on there website so if you want quiet go for it. Just when they are rusted right out of the box don't bother calling Samson because all they will do is tell you to go scratch since it's on the inside. These are nice and quiet and look like crap from the rear, anyone interested in buying them cheap since Samson said no returns deal with it. Just so you know my policy will be the same no return, taking bids
