lp and gabhart... have either of you communicated this with powercommander? I have this issue on both my 06 Dyna and 07 RK with PCIII's installed on both. And yes, if I hook up the 9v battery to the PCIIIboth start on first try... and yes without the 9v battery I see it lose power and come back during the cranking phase. Defintely (in my eyes) an issue with the modem losing its power circuit as soon as the starter is hit.
I don't really have much of an issue with this, but it is annoying as hell. My dealer and the owners manual also told me to wait till the check engine light goes out and fuel pump stops before cranking, so I have no intention of cranking immediately after hitting run switch.
I have not communicated this with Power Commander mainly because it is an issue that does not bother me.
Also, I would not recommend anyone starting a fuel injected Harley before the check engine light goes out. Why? Owners manual says not to, 2 dealers have told me not to and a feeling in my gut.
A problem exists. I post my observations. You back up my observations with some proof. Some say it's the maps. Some will not post on the subject anymore because they are techs. GEEZ!
Words can be misunderstood in this type of setting and some posts can easily be misread or in my casejust in one eye and out the other (being too tired to be taking information in). You are correct in taking me up on my "challenge" and your findings are what I would expect one to find. Thank you for backing me up! Really!
I apologize for getting weird and posting text that would offend.
Can we clear the slate on this and make up? I want a big hug after all of this and we come up with a resolution that PC will pay us big bucks for!!!!
By the way I am with alot of you folks in saying this issue really doesn't bother me...it's just cool with all of you guys chiming in to try to figure out what's going on!
I dont let the bells and whistles go out in my truck before it starts. Have over 100,000 miles with no problems. Dont believe everything you hear from a dealer either. I am sure self test is good for the sensors but I see no harm in starting before the light goes out. Being FI the sensors stablize pretty quickly to the outside temps.
Couple of ???s,you guys with the PC111 prior to Hdsnew released download SB903.Is the starting issue better or worse now?or the same? And is their any difference with leaving bar switch on run and hitting button?say after parking bike -and turning on ignition switch before starting?Versesturning bar switch from off to run then turning on ignition then start button? This problem seems to have worsened after this new factorydownload or weather is permiting more bikes out again.
So.... if it's so old news, do you still think the problem is in the map?

I have communicated this with Dynojet umpteen times. Started back in Dec 2005.I've talked with several people at Dynojet, and none of them have been able to figure it out. Here's a link to a thread that I started on this back in 2005. This is old news.
Well I updated to the latest software version 3.1.8 from Power Commander, reloaded my map into my bike 1/2 hour ago *custom map just done last Friday, and it now starts on the 3rd turn over versus the 5th, 6th and sometimes 7th revolution. I could not locate the firmware version but all I'm saying is the software was the only change and it starts quicker but not on the first hit like stock. I do feel better about it now that my starter is not overworking itself. Oh yeah the now 3rd revolution start is on a cold bike, I will update tomorrow after riding around.

Same delay before and after the ECM firmware update.
The kill switch has not been a factor in any of my observations.
Ive heard feedback from guys with no start issue (before 06) and those with the problem 06 & 07, seems to me harley must have changed something in the way it sends power to its ECM.
This can't be true if some of theguys are saying they have fixed this with mappings! I have played around with so many maps and none have changed anything with the delay issue. I really forgot about it until you guys brought it up again. I'll believe it's a mapping issuewhen I see it!
I don't want any credit. Just wanted to get to the root of the problem, not just take someones word for it.
If I or someone did come up with a physical work around you know dynojet would probably void your warranty for using it.....[:@]
I've got the components at work to fix it I think. Maybe 6 bucks in parts. I'll put it together this weekend and let ya'll know.
But maybe I'll just be lazy and forget about it too.. not like it's a big deal or anything.
