Looks like a great project - congrats on the new bike! I would love to try something like that - just lack the wrenching skills for now. Please keep us all posted. We love a good project build.

Well they're not chrome. If they're stock ones, then they were polished. They're aluminum

fell just short of my goal for the night. was hoping to get the wheels polished up and clean the beads up so i can get the tires mounted and balanced tomorrow. the shop has limited hours tomorrow so we'll see if i can make it happen in the morning.

here's where i left her. and was happy when the UPS man showed up with some motivation

polished up some chrome bits

quick touch on the wheel with some polish

compared to before, these will shine up great

and thank you CFR and Iron Aces for rediculous fast shipping. ordered wednesday and showed up friday. well done

If you had trouble sliding the Sears red jack under the bike, that could mean that the bike has been lowered.

That jack works great as long as you engage the locks and let the pressure off of the hydraulics. It's pretty solid.

Congrats on the project. From the pictures it doesn't look that bad. Not a garage queen but a well used daily rider. Just needs TLC. Although the painted chrome is a bit funny....

yeah the bike is lowered. found the brackets on the rear shock mounts. so that explains that.

saturday was a race to repair/polish up the outer lip of the wheels and run to the dealership. got there 20 minutes too late and had to leave them there to mount and balance the tires. no other progress was made.

today started as a lazy sunday with rain. finally got out there for a couple hours and continued cleaning and removing the black spray paint from the chrome parts. also fixed the cracked and missing breather hose setup.

found a 3 way T in the tool box, some hose and it's good to go.

today was up and down. dealership called and said the rear wheel was trashed. the wheel bearing was almost pulling out by hand. not good since it's a press fit.

this sucks on multiple levels because they are the different wheels without the accent line between the spokes and they were polished. odds of finding a matching rear wheel = none. so i scoured ebay and the classifies with failure.

but then ebay showed me a jewel. a 06 electra glide wheel with a new tire mounted. 165 shipped to my door. unfortunately the wheel is black with the polished lip.

also being a 06 wheel it has a 1" axle bearing. so i ordered a set of 1" to 3/4" axle reducers so i could keep my rear axle and spacers. easy enough.

but since it's the back wheel, it's hidden by the bags so i'm doing a temporary fix and going to sand it with silver engine enamel and call it good until next winter when i tear the bike down to the frame. it's already riding weather and i just want to make this thing safe and cleaned up for now.

so new rim and tire are on the way. also received my lightly used 08 stock exhaust. in better shape than expected, that's awesome. gotta go get my front wheel and tire tomorrow and finish cleaning up some stuff on the bike. also still waiting for my exhaust mounts and some other misc stuff.

motor getting better

and the take of 08 exhaust. just have to run to the parts store and pick up a plug for the o2 bung
