That depends. Some places have annual inspections and check alignment. Plus if the low beams are set too high, cars will be flashing you constantly and you will have to deal with them getting pissed and leaving their brights on.

I have always adjusted my lights to shine where I want them to be, if a vehicle flashes their light at me I smile because at least on car sees me. I have always had bright lights on my cars and was one of the first to have halogens instead of the old sealed beams, only been pulled over 1 time. Oncoming car flashes his lights,it is dusk. I ignore him, he flashes his lights and leaves them on several seconds, I ignore him. He flashes them again and I hit my High beams, car is a 67 pontiac it has 4 headlights. All 4 are Hella Halogen. Turns out oncoming car was a state trooper so he whips around, pulls me over and starts bitching about my lights and me flashing my lights at him ! Ahole. This was 1981. In the old days gas stations had headlight alignment tools and I would set mine the way I liked them and check with the tool, my adjustment was slightly higher and a little wider.

Good points. I always try to have my headlights aimed properly, as close to factory specs as i can get. If i get to many flashes, I'll lower them. I hate others blinding me with badly adjusted lights and high beams, and a drawback of blinding others is, they are driving blind and can cause a accident and they can drift into your lane and wipe you out.

I follow the instructions set forth in the manual, however I have a short garage. I mask off a line perpendicular to the back wall and precisely position the bike. Using a framing level I sit on the bike to load up the suspension and check the positioning. The back wall has a sheet tacked up with masking tape indicating the appropriate measurements. Both high beam/low beam and passing lamps are adjusted with this set-up. The distance from lights to back wall is roughly 15 feet. Nighttime testing shows it to be spot on. Works for me.

Yes all that is consided when I align them..

It's not like i'm adjusting then to far out of "standard"

I use to live in PA when inspections were every 6 months, but never had a problem.
you're advise is well taken
